I wish our offseason hadn't started this week, but here's a first look at the 2022-23 Scholarship Grid. I added "Oversigned" rows for Jacob Grandison and Austin Hutcherson as they were seniors last year, but have the option to return due to the COVID season of 2020-21. I didn't want to remove any eligible names from the grid until they're officially gone as I took Kofi off last year, only for him to return (hopefully he returns again).

Dumb question: Could Connor Serven stay for a fifth year? Last year did not count for him, right?

Dumb comment: As of right now we have eight slots filled for 2024-25. If AC, BBV, CH & BL all stay for their (+1) fifth years, we would already be down to just one open slot for three years from now! And yes, I understand why that won't happen.

Just to make sure I understand correctly, if either or both of Grandi and Hutch come back for next season for their +1 COVID option, there would need an open scholarship for each within the 13?

Given the commitments we have, and the other needs, I do not see either Hutch or Grandison returning. IL has already fulfilled its scholarship obligations to them. However, with NIL, there is a greater possibility of a player such as Grandison, Hutch or Lieb returning as a walkon, without Luther Head having to pay their tuition. This is actually an interesting possibility for Hutch given that not many high or even mid-major teams would risk a scholarship on him. Between loans and NIL he might wish to stay with a coaching staff that knows him (and where he might get some NIL interest) to prove he is past his injury troubles. He was a grad student this year, so he may just want to get on with his life - but if he wants any career as a basketball player, it would appear that he needs a full year of competitive basketball to establish himself as a viable player going forward.

who other than Loyalty enthusiasts has any idea who Hutch is though, let alone to shell out NIL bucks?
