"Big plays" = "the defense needs a lot of work"

Maybe but I think the defense is what is going to keep us in most games at this point. But those highlights looked pretty good. Especially that long pass, that was right on the money!

Who do you cheer for when your team plays itself? First string against second string, if first string does really well, is that because the second string isn't good, and therefore you have no depth? If it's close, does that mean your best guys aren't good enough? :D

I was wondering the same thing. I looked up the scores to last years OSU and Bama spring games. Both were close if that tells you anything. I don't know how the teams were set up though.

Lovie Smith: Had a lot of injuries this spring, which allowed other players to get a look.

Lovie Smith: Excited about getting our offense. You saw what it can be. Pleased with what we did throughout the spring.

Lovie Smith: There are positions we still need to make decisions on once we get more people in here. Still a lot of battles coming up this fall.

Lovie Smith: Recruiting is going well. We have an excellent staff of recruiters.

Lovie Smith: A lot of 2018 players will have a chance to play. They saw last year that we will play freshmen. This class we really like a lot. We need some of them to step up and be who we think they are.

Lovie Smith: Justice Williams made the switch well to WR. Thought he caught the ball fairly well.

Lovie Smith: Cam Thomas realize there's competition coming. He needs to look at how he improves. He knows offense better than anyone coming in. Needs to continue to add muscle.

Lovie Smith: All injured/suspended guys on track to participate in team activities once we get back together.

Lovie Smith: You can't have too many RBs. We classify ourselves as a running team.

Lovie Smith: Jakari Norwood was outstanding in offseason workouts. He'll bring something to the table with his speed.

Lovie Smith: Cory Patterson is genuine as he talks to you. His history has been as a mentor and outstanding coach. He's a detail guy. He's embraced his role.

Lovie Smith: I think people have had more time to see what we are. We know what the record is, but people look into the future and see the way we're trending.

Lovie Smith: I can't wait for training camp. It'll be here before you know it. There's a lot of work we can do in between.

Lovie Smith: Joey Boese and the rest of his strength and conditioning staff, they do a great job. They took a back seat in spring and now Joey's staff takes center stage again.
