Wait you think Sarks play calling is bad? Have you watched Bama the last two years?
Sark is Herman. Herman is Sark. Just another Yankee X's and O's wizard who has dominated the top level as a playcaller but is relatively unproven as a head coach.

They spent eight figures to hire the same guy. It might be too kind to say the same about Auburn. Insanity.

Doesn’t Ash still have guaranteed millions from Rutgers which gets offset by whatever he earns? The good news is he’s available, the bad news is he’s likely getting a lot of calls- this will be a test of BB’s pull for someone he has the money to hire that used to be his DC. To Gritty’s point, this now becomes a big red flag if BB can’t get him

But Sark can party, so not all is lost.

Sark is the first coordinator Texas has hired to be their head coach since Ed Price in 1951. Since then they have only hired head coaches to replace their fired head coaches. There have been 7 hired since 1957. They got 2 right. Darrell Royal and Mack.

Can we get ash and some other guys off their staff?? That would be a solid get
Not to mention with the transfer rules this year, it’s a free agency bonanza with no salary cap- so getting coaches that can bring some players along for the ride is huge - which makes Ash and any other coach from big talent programs even more appealing

Agreed. Just saying I think Sark is a good play caller. Not proven as a HC though.

But I suppose he's more of a rehabilitated, former head coach than a coordinator.

This is a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway:

Is Chris Ash a good Defensive Coordinator?

Wonder if they’ll just trade places and Herman just slides into the Saban school of coaching rehabilitation.
That would probably be the best position for him if he's wanting to coach next year. I'm guessing at this point in the year there won't be many high level coordinator positions opening up, probably not any G5 or lower-level P5 head coaching positions opening up, and he has no NFL ties. It's either joining Saban's coaching rehab clinic or he takes a TV job for a year or two.

Yes. Not exactly sure how good but definitely one of the better dc’s in college football.
Most Coordinators are only as good as their talent. Can make some difference but only so much.

Let Sark call plays for ILLINOIS last year. He wouldn’t have looked good.

Yes- His defenses at Wisconsin were top 15 in the country without a ton of NFL players - at Ohio St they were top 5 defenses in the country with a bunch of NFL talent - it’s hard to rate this year at Texas given he was implementing his defense without a full offseason like everyone else- but he’s as good as we could ever hope for resume wise

Were the bottom of the barrel.
It is incredibly obnoxious that it has barely taken two weeks for people to start ludicrously, laughably denigrating the program in order to prostrate themselves before the new power structure. Get a freakin hold of yourselves.

We are not remotely the bottom of the barrel, for a number of reasons, but overwhelmingly more important than the rest combined being that we don't pay like the bottom of the barrel.

Ash is a really really top DC. He may have other suitors that can pay even more than we can, though we ought to be able to pay a ton. If he's the next guy at LSU, it will be tough to go chicken little over that as some "rejection" of Bielema. The context will matter.

But for goodness sakes, please spare me the notion that our lavishly funded, brand newly housed program, undertaking a fresh, heavily invested six-year project with our decorated new head coach we turned down solid candidates to hire ought to be pulling assistants worse than Dead Man Walking Zook and Semi-Retired Guenther, or Mr. WINT Beckman and History's Greatest Monster Mike Thomas. Show yourself the respect of not pretending to believe that.

Well, actually it took me 10 seconds. Although I will admit I said I was out of here. But I am still lurking. I think Ash would be a great get. English would be great as db coach. The OC was very blah.

I do think the Illini are bottom of the barrel in the Big. How can you argue that?

Anyway, as far as assistants go. I could still see it being a massive dissapointment like Beckman. Or a major improvement. Good luck.
