"It is a pleasure to name Kevin Kane as the final addition of our coaching staff at the University of Illinois," Bielema said.

It's great to see another guy with coordinator experience. With the possible exception of the OC I think we've upgraded our coaching staff across the board. I went from indifferent towards this hire to excited pretty quickly after seeing this staff.

It’s really stunning what BB has done here. Of course it still has to convert to wins, but there is serious talent in that coaching room. There is no reason to think we aren’t on the verge of a true resurgence in Illinois football. If successful some of these guys won’t be here long, but that’s a problem we could only dream about having for a long time now. Bust out that orange kool-aid and everclear!

Does the fact that we have 2 LB coaches and 1 DL coach scream 3-4 to anyone else?

I'm guessing it is going to be some sort of Hybrid 3-3-5/2-4-5 type defense considering the experience and expertise of the defensive staff where we have some sort of elephant LB who sometimes stand and sometimes has hand in ground along with a S/LB hybrid to create flexibility

Is anyone else weirded out by the fact we have 2 ppl coaching LBs and 2 people coaching DBs?

That seems like a weird allocation of resources to me

Phenomenal staff. Walters, Kane, Bart Miller will be future head coaches. Then you got guys with strong recruiting reputations in McDonald, Patterson, Henry. Then a ton of experience in Buh, Peterson, Bielema. I don’t see any weaknesses here, and when you got the HC hitting the recruiting trail personally, this is as confident as I have ever been in Illini football.

Previous staffs you hoped would win. This staff I expect to win.

Obviously, Illini players at these positions have had very, very little coaching in their time at Illinois so they’re going to get double teamed coaching now? Sounds good to me, and I bet it sounds even better to them...

Not sure how to interpret it, but on both offense and defense we have an AHC Bielema has worked with before and a Coordinator he hasn't.
Yeah wondering what the difference is in terms of responsibility of an associate HC and an assistant HC? We also have like a chief of staff or something that is not an actual position coach. LOTS of administration, at least on paper. If BB is the big stick on recruiting maybe the staffer is pulling a lot of admin hours.
If the coaching chops are real, and they look like they are, no one will be under coached. On the Recruiting side looks like we are solid but not spectacular.
And all of them seem to have a connect to BB or to ILL. Wow. Lots of home work got done. Maybe thats JW? Or maybe JW found a kindred spirit in BB on the who in state/ILL thing. If so, way cool.

IDK the details of any of this but from far away it gets me excited.

Im guessing this means we lost out on Coach Sack Interceptington? I recall reading a post a couple weeks ago that we had the inside track on him.
