I have said it before, I am a 60 year fan of the Illini - even grew up in Champaign. Up until Trent decided to come back for his “super senior” year my favorite Illini of all time was a guard named Quinn Richardson. Most on here would have never heard of him much less why some fan would say he was his favorite Illini of all time. Trent is not from Illinois, was recruited by a different coach, was asked to play a back seat role to one of our greatest players of all time, asked to play point guard (I think he was considered a “scorer” coming out of HS in Florida), asked to become one of the best defenders in the entire conference. The list could just go on and on. He is what College sports are all about. Listen to him on the commercials he does for underprivileged kids in the Champaign area. What we have all seen with Trent Frazier is a young kid turn into a tremendous young man in his time in Champaign. Many other kids have done the same (DMW for example), but for me with all the things that make Champaign really no different than Mars to him, I can’t help but say he is my favorite to play for the Illini. You watch over the years he will come back to Champaign more than many many others to have played here. In the end, I am just super happy his college career did not have to end on an injury like that. He deserves a great deal of praise as he really is the piece that started the return to elite that Illinois should be. He was there at rhe begging and that is very special.
