U of I Alumni Confirmation Project?

Has anyone responded to this project? Is it a useful exercise, or another way to try to get donations?

Thanks.

In my experience with both U of I and the law school I attended, the only reason they ever reach out to alumni is for money. I once tried to get my law school's career services in touch with a friend who wanted to post a job to his firm and they were entirely unresponsive. But I always get tons of calls and emails when it comes time to ask for donations.

From what information I can find it is a "partnership" between alumni associations to "update the directory" and it just happens to be epidemic as a sudden need for these updates. I have two different alma maters sending the cards at the exact same time and many others are also doing the same. I am less concerned about UIUC trying to raise money than I am about the partner company collecting tons of data to sell on the internet to advertisers. I put it in the scam category.

Can confirm. The last time I updated my data I was slammed with spam for months. I get that the Alumni Association needs revenue, but I'd rather just pay them directly what they're getting from my share of the data sale.
