Week 8 Games

While I don't inherently disagree with any of this, if one of those big school come calling Brohm will listen. He is human, after all and the ceiling at a place like USC or Tennessee is just flat out higher than Purdue, Illinois, NW, etc. Scott Frost was God at UCF but when Nebraska came calling he was gone. Brohm did not go to Tennessee but he did listen to what they had to offer. If he has any NFL coaching dreams the primary route to get there is through one of these big programs.

I think anyone would be a fool not to listen. LSU could offer 30 million a year and you’d be dumb not to listen.

But say that John Phillips was at Illinois doing what Brohm is at Purdue, say that Illinois paid Phillips brother fat money to be a figurehead coordinator, allowed Phillips family run of the place. Say that JPs Alma Mater was 3 hours away and full of scandal and broke. Say that Illinois put in new palatial facilities and had saved their money wisely and could offer to make Phillips a top 5 paid coach with huge raises for his staff. Say at Illinois, back to back 8 win seasons made you a great guy .. and back to back 10 win seasons made you a hero.

Why would you ever go to a place where, for nominally more in salary, a single loss to Alabama or Stanford or Michigan was the end of the world and back to back two win seasons got you the stink eye from donors.

Well, I’ll be objective. If you find out that Phillips is Brohm the man and that he drives a Toyota beater and just wants to win, and just routed a NC contender with a hall of fame coach, you think, at the very least “we can keep this guy for 2.5 more years, by which time we will be forever transformed.”

If Phillips were a metaphor for PJ Fleck... the man.. the man I refer to as fluffy hype, id say “he gone.” From Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio State. That guy will literally jump a power job to the nfl for five extra bucks you watch.

To Illinois fans i will say this. We have been through Danny Hope, Darrell Hazell, the tiller years where he was basically mentally already retired (05-08) with an AD, board of trustees and fans who said “you can’t invest, you can’t demand nice things, every dollar spent had huge potential to be a dollar wasted and we are just purdue.”

To those of you who want to demand things, and want your admin to have a “how can we” attitude, not only are you right, it is absolutely necessary not to get smoked in todays arm race. And anyone who says otherwise isn’t pragmatic or the adult in the room .. they are backwards and WRONG. !!!!in Jesus we had people who defended John freaking shop and Darrell Hazell for two years and if you criticized Hazell they told you you were just a bitter bears fan and that is why you hate shoop.

Demand better Illinois. I want to beat Illinois every time, but when Illinois is beating Indiana, Minnesota... crap any big ten team besides us, to me the world is a better place. Join us and leave the Indiana’s and Minnesotas and rutgwrs of the world behind

I think we are crowning Brohm a bit too fast. He might be a special coach, but this is still squarely in the flash in the pan stage. I will 100% admit he has brought Purdue out of the gutter. But whether or not he's a generational coach is very much in the air.

I can very easily see him staying at Purdue for a while, but he wont be a lifer if he is truly that great, there's always a bigger fish (unless you're Bama).

Here's an intriguing thought, contrary to what I've just said, what if OSU does think he's the second coming of Woody Hayes? I honestly don't see Meyer lasting more than a couple more years at OSU.

Is there a way to bookmark certain posts? I would love to come back and savor some of the these BD mil posts when Brohm leaves, especially if it happens right before some recruiting violations are uncovered.
