Rutgers is playing at 11PM their time??? I had to check a couple sites to confirm that was right.

I can‘t ever recall a team playing so late their local time. Why couldn’t they have kicked off at 6:30 or 7 Pacific time? Most of the country will be heading to bed at kickoff. I feel bad for the Rutgers players. Do they get an 11AM kickoff when USC travels to them?

The World Series is directly before kickoff. Completely network driven. Fox wanted to televise both games.

Surprised they didn’t go to ND Navy or another top 25 match up that is happening next weekend
None of the other match-ups are really that compelling or in venues that they haven't already been to this year (Only top 25 vs. top 25 games are in Eugene, Tuscaloosa, and College Station). This will be first Saturday Gameday appearance as they previously were there for a Thursday night season opener in 2017.

I fear we got absolutely destroyed by Bama-Tennessee in the ratings but we shall see.
I bet we were on par with the USC - Penn State game with about 4.25M viewers, maybe even on par with the OSU/Iowa game at 4.5M.

I could be wrong, but soon enough, if we keep winning, we will have big-time viewership numbers.

Here’s a fun side story to the CBS pregame production. The old timey microphones that Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson were holding made it on-air because of an effort by my brother — a letter carrier in Champaign.

A few hours before the game, a guy from CBS came into the post office, frantically asking if a package was there. The package contained those microphones and was set to be delivered to the iHotel, but it quickly became obvious they wouldn’t get there in time for the pre-game show. He asked if someone could root around in back and try to find them, if they were even there at all. My brother took on the task and went on the hunt.

As fate would have it, the package was there and it was the very last one at the bottom of a mail gurney. My brother brought it up to the guy, who was ecstatic and thanked everyone involved who helped save the day — and who knows, maybe his job. He came back a few minutes later with Dunkin Donuts and coffee for the entire post office and asked if he could do even more. My brother said that was more than enough, and that he was just doing his job. I said he should’ve asked for a couple of passes to the press box, but that’s just me. 😂

At the end of the day, I told my brother that he should be proud to have played a part, no matter how small, of what was an all-around perfect production and execution of an amazing historical day at 100 year old Memorial Stadium. He agreed.

College Gameday will visit every other Division I college campus before it ever comes to Illinois. But who needs them at this point…
We're one of 3 B1G schools they've never visited (the others being Maryland and Rutgers). The only other P4 schools they haven't went to are SMU, Syracuse, and Rutgers. There have been potentially 2 games this season where we would have been one of the teams involved for them on site but the schedule just didn't happen to work out that week. Bielema is building something here. We just have to be patient and things will work out for us to host the show.

I agree with this.

The bigger issue that Illinois has had over the years, which was highlighted last week in many posts is the lack of ranked on ranked games in Champaign. There is no chance the rest of the year. I am not sure what next year will bring, but I believe that there is a great chance that Gameday will want to be involved in the Arch Rivalry Game set to take place Sep 26, 2026, especially if both teams are ranked.

What a strange year for Indiana to be this good. 4 wins against nobody ranked, a combined 5-12 in conference, with no teams on the schedule above .500 except a lone game with OSU. Of their remaining decent teams (uMich and Washington), they have both at home. You'd have to look at that schedule and think 8-1 is most likely.

After beating Michigan, the path to 10-2 looks very attainable which means we can officially start talking about playoff scenarios.

With it being the first year of the 12 team playoff, it's a bit of a crapshoot predicting what it will take to get there. But 10-2 would certainly put us in the conversation.

The simplest way I can think of it is we need the BIG12 and ACC to be 1 bid leagues, and we need ND to miss out too. That would leave 9 combined spots for the B1G and SEC to occupy. Let's assume the SEC will get 5 in due to SOS, so that leaves 4 spots for the B1G.

The ying and yang of the new B1G...UCLA traveled to Piscataway last weekend and played 9am their time, and beat Rutgers. Now Rutgers has to travel to USC as you point out and play at 11pm their time.
