Just going to remark that the 2 games on Saturday weren't half bad. The new rules seemed nice and the pacing of the game with the running game clock and 25 second play clock was really good. Looking forward to today's games.

I’m planning on watching the St Louis game. If they’re fun, I might take the family to a game later this spring.

I’ve long thought that spring football should work. There’s really no reason it shouldn’t.

My favorite thing was the transparency of the review process. It was great to be able to hear the replay official go over what he was looking for and what went into the decision on whether to overturn, play stands, etc.

It was if they were trying to entertain and inform anyone who might be viewing the game at home.

I’ve adopted the St Louis team as my XFL team and watched both their games. It’s fun football. They do it right in that they emphasize the product for the football itself instead of as a developmental league for the NFL.

The kickoff and extra point rules might be a little gimicky, but I don’t fast forward through them (or go fold laundry or whatever) when they come on. I would not be surprised at all if the NFL eventually adopted the XFL’s kickoff.

If the XFL continues to emphasize the entertainment factor in the game itself, if could have a future.

My favorite part is how the ref's explain reviews. If the NFL has any cojones they'd adopt it for next year.

The kickoff is interesting, and I actually think the extra point stuff is super interesting and would add a lot to games. I hope the XFL makes it as a league. I think the emphasis on embracing gambling will help that.

Yeah. The extra point stuff is interesting.

The convention right now seems to be to go for 2 since the difference between that and the 1 is pretty slight. We’ll see how offenses and defenses adapt as time goes on.

Also, the clock rules add some subtle interest to the game, shrinking the first 28 minutes of a half and telescoping the last 2. You have more plays open to you if you’re trying to come back and you have to do more than run it up the middle over and over to run out the clock.

I haven’t seen any stats comparing number of possessions and total plays between NFL, XFL and college. I get the sense there are fewer possessions in the XFL, but I’m not sure. I’m also curious to see if defenses get worn out more because of the quicker play clock and the shorter halftime.

I tell you what... if I were coaching in that league, I’d try to get me a really mobile qb and run the Oregon spread to death. Frankly, not too different from what Chuck Long is doing in St Louis.
