Wes Lunt to visit Louisville next week

Illinois at UNLV: Tuesday, November 26th

2015 top 15 in Illinois

1. Charles Matthews, 6-4, PG/2G, St. Rita
Regarded as one the top dozen prospects in the country in the Class of 2015, Matthews is a combo guard with size, length and versatility. He's one of the few players in the class that has solidified himself as a true, legit high-major player. Matthews impacts games in a variety of ways and has so many tools to work with and build on. Now he simply needs to be that impact player on a consistent basis.

2. Jalen Brunson, 6-2, PG, Stevenson
Made a huge name for himself while averaging 21.8 points a game for a Stevenson team that finished second in the state in March. All the cliché attributes of a point guard fit, including natural leader with a high basketball I.Q. But he can really pass and shoot, run a team and, best of all, is a clutch performer. Only question mark surrounding Brunson is his overall quickness and foot speed, particularly on the defensive end.

Wes Lunt update

Confused about Wes Lunt's future? Here's some helpful insight from a source close to the situation: It's still very early in the process. Why? Oklahoma State Head Coach Mike Gundy has only granted Lunt's release to Illinois, which Wes visited Thursday, and Louisville. Gundy has blocked all other schools on Lunt's list. That list includes: All Big 12 Schools, All SEC schools (including Vanderbilt and Tennessee) and Southern Mississippi. Lunt can appeal the list Gundy turned down, but it's a 35-day process.

Aaron Bailey will arrive soon

"My knee's good now," Bailey said. "I'm able to squat, run and push off of it. We just kept praying and trusting in God. I kept doing rehab and working it out. I haven't looked back."

Bailey has spent much of the past three months prepping for the start of his Illinois career.

A superb baseball player, he spent the spring away from the diamond to hone in on football.

Football: Darius Millines, Darrius Caldwell gone

Darius Millines and Darrius Caldwell are no longer members of the Illinois football team.

Illinois coach Tim Beckman confirmed the move Wednesday morning, saying both will not play again at Illinois after a violation of team policies. He declined comment on the specific reasons for why Millines and Caldwell -- who both missed spring practices -- won't suit up for the Illini during the 2013 season. He did not indicate where Millines, a wide receiver, and Caldwell, a defensive end might end up transferring to either.

Assembly Hall renovation, renaming now heads to trustees

The university will finance the $165 million project with the sale of bonds, most likely 30-year bonds, according to Bass. Including interest on those bonds, the cost could be between $250 million to $300 million. Bass has not nailed down an exact figure for the university's annual debt service payment, but estimated it at around $9 million to $10 million.

The annual revenues to pay for that debt service will come from about $4.8 million of seat licensing, $2.1 million from student fees (this spring students approved a $50 annual fee to help pay for the project), $2 million from State Farm for the naming rights, $700,000 in ticket surcharges and $500,000 in Big Ten Network revenue.

Cliff Alexander

There's a general perception that Michigan State has been Alexander's favorite for the last few years, but Irvin doesn't agree.

"I don't think they have a slight lead; I think it's even," Irvin said. "I think Illinois gained a lot of ground in the last couple of months."

[His dad] says, 'You have to find a great coach. Don't worry about the school. Everything else will take care of itself.' I'm looking for a coach who will help me succeed on the court and off the court.."

"Illinois is a really good school. A lot of my friends have gone there. It is good academically. Coach Groce is an intense coach. He gets after his guys, even during the game. He wants the best for his players. He showed a lot of interest in me by coming to several of my games."
