A lot of Shaun's problems in his senior season can be traced to a lack of outside shooting due to the combination of the Jamar/Gordon issues. Shaun had some limitations, but he also had signficant strengths. Unfortunately there were (inside and outside) attitude issues in his senior season as a result of those problems.

Now, I hope Mav will be better than Shaun, of course, but as good as Shaun on a better team would be pretty darn good.
Pruitt played his best basketball in the big ten tourney his senior year. If he could have played as hard as he did in the tourney his whole career he couldve have been a great player. I do think Morgan will be better than Pruitt and has the body to bang in the B1G

Matthews, Nunn, Tate, Lyle and now they are trying to get Larry Austin to come too. Should be a good weekend for recruiting.

Pretty sure I know the answer's no, but any chance any of them say screw it, I'm an Illini?

Nunn and Tate will. Oh wait.....they already did.

We already sit well with Matthews and having Lyle around Nunn and Tate is a great thing. Those three are already friends. Austin is still a long shot, but you never know. Him making it down this weekend would be a good start to strengthening his relationship with Illinois.

I guess it's possible then. It's a huge weekend for the recruits and I'll actually be IN Champaign this weekend for the football game!

Austin is a kid that we can make up ground with in a hurry.

Is that an opinion or do you have inside knowledge?

It's opinion. I should've made that clear.

He loves Illinois. Always has. And he lives in an area where he can visit in a moment's notice. He's been to Champaign a ton already. He's comfortable with the campus.

If he and his father like Groce, then IMO there's no doubt we'll be in this.

I've also heard that Austin wants OUT of Illinois...so I guess it depends on what "grapevine" you listen to. lol

i will be going to a bunch of simeon games in Illinois gear. If we all planned it out, i bet jabari would be overwhelmed with 50-100 fans at Chicago state wearing illini orange. Kendrick and jaylon will tell him i told you so.

My point exactly well said... Shaun was talented.. if he a cast of players surrounding him he would have looked better and might have shared the ball.. There were to many downers on that team with him.. Mav could be compared to worse.. That skill set with some shooter and someone to pass the ball could be a great combination.

At the risk of this devolving to a thread about Shaun Pruitt abilities, or lack thereof, I do agree he was not as bad as people made him out to be. I remember him hanging with DJ White (from Indiana) a few of the times we played them and he was First Team All-Big Ten for a couple years in there. Defensively he was a banger and was a decent rebounder. My only complaints about him, aside from his abysmal FT shooting and inability to pass it out from double teams was when he would refuse to go strong up to the hole, instead settling for weak layups or tip-ins that would often miss. Helped his offensive rebound numbers, though!

Ore Arogundade Talks Game, Illinois Visit

What does he like about the Illinois basketball program?

"I like their togetherness. I feel like they have a new attitude of moving forward and I believe Coach Groce is a motivating guy. I believe Illinois has a chance to make some noise in the Big Ten."

He currently holds offers from Northern Illinois and Toledo. The junior updated us on what is going on with his recruitment.

For Larry... wouldn't he be making it "over"?

Arogundade is a nice little combo guard prospect...doubt if he's Illinois material but could possibly play at a lower division high Major or would be a nice mid-major prospect.

Nunn and Tate already have, but I would prefer Lyle/Matthews/Austin reply differently...something more along the lines of " #!@% it, I'm going to Illinois".

Excellent idea..Someone pass the word along to some members! The Pontiac tournament might be a good spot to do it! I know I will be there supporting the ILLINI Shirt while watching Simeon!

For folks in the Chicagoland, there's a tourney at UIC in December featuring commits/recruits. Apologies if this has been posted already -

I actually like this idea provided it's not a violation. After Nunn and Tate sign on the dotted line, I would think it would be okay to support them (opinion). Coaches can finally start to talk about them at that point.

I'm loving all these chicago pipeline stories. Real happy about Nunn and his father.

Maybe he's vying for Klee's job.

I may have missed this before, but what's the story with Larry Austin? Miffed by the delayed offer? Wants out of the state? I always figured him to be an Illini fan, but also figured he wanted an offer a long time ago.

Yes and Yes. The general info on this is A) he wants out of the state for college and B) he wasn't happy to not be offered earlier.

All of the above according to rumors. But also there is a history of Springfield kids not ending up from Illinois. Gamble, Horton, Iguadola, T. Lee (although he was an original UI commit), etc.

I know guys like Clemmons, McBride, etc. went to Illinois. But going "out of state" wouldn't be unusual.
