This was my first thought (and fear) the moment Tressel stepped down.

Don't know much about him, but maybe he's at least worth a look.

Agree. You could see this one coming from the day Tressel stepped down.

That will certainly suck all the oxygen out of the room unless we hire Mike Leach. At least that will take OSU out of play for some of our potential candidates.
Fickell is seen as a very good recruiter, defensive guy a bit on the conservative side like Tressel. It is hard to determine how good of recruiter you are when you are at Ohio State recruiting mostly in state kids who dream of going there. |

Fickell has spent almost his entire life in Columbus. Played high school and college ball, and has done all of his coaching (12 years total) at OSU with the exception of two years at Dayton. He was the perfect guy to babysit the OSU program for a year, but I can't see him being a strong head coaching candidate anywhere else. He needs to see the world outside OSU for a bit, and prove he can coach somewhere else.

still just a rumor
I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but this rumor has been swirling in Columbus since the day Tressel left. Urban Meyer bought Kirk Herbstreit's house. Urban Meyer was at the airport. Urban Meyer was at such-and-such restaurant. I'll believe it when it's official.

Anyone have any examples of Coaches who had burnout or health issues who
returned to coach again and what were the results? |

Herbstreit would be making a big mistake if he left a golden gig as ABC/ESPN's top CFB analyst for a coordinator's job, IMO. He's hugely popular as a commentator.

He'd be hugely popular as a coach and would help Urban bring in that many more recruits. He would always be able to get back into broadcasting and he might want to try out coaching a little, and who better to learn it from than Urban?

Only the top top schools can get coaches like Urban Meyer. I guess Notre Dame really doesn't qualify as one anymore.

makes sense- and to be honest the bigten needs osu to be good in the big pix regardless of our views or motives toward osu..
he did not want to have to recruit- he won't at OSU- he'll get all the kids from Ohio and a few 4/5 star kids from florida and down south. he is an ohio boy year off to re-charge / he is young, if he stays in college, at osu for a long period of time they will be awesome! does not effect UI much- recruiting-no |
