Yep, pretty much dead last, also reflected by our position in the conference standings.

this is what makes the illini trainwreck tougher that usual to stomach. tOSU and PSU are ineligible and the entire conference looks like garbage. I hoped for an outside shot at the B1G title game when the season started, but now I expect the Illini to get blown out in 7 of 8 conference games.

Not many changes to #illini depth chart. Still a lot of ORs but Nathan Scheelhaase is only guy listed as only starting QB.

Illinois is 34th in total D, 76th is scoring D. Penn State is 47th in total D, 14th in scoring D. One team is disciplined. One team is not.

Last year, after five games, our D was giving up 296 yards per game and 17.4 points per game. This year, only 340 yards, but 27.8 points.

see i am not happy to hear he was injured but during the game i was sooo pissed off to see Svetina in there when i thought a healthy JB45 was on the sidelines

so i take back me being so mad and frustrated cause now i know he was banged up

but during the game i was screaming at my tv about this

they never even mentioned anything during the game about it so seemed like no one knew

Monheim seems to be our future LB at MLB glad he's done so well for us....yes we will have freshman mistakes with him in but hes done a good job so far overall

could be said any better, but no this is NOT a scapegoat strategy saying our Depth and now injuries are hurting us cause reardless we still need to put a competitive team on the field

but we all knew and so did the coaches that depth was a major issue for us coming into this season

but now with all the injuries: Pocic, Hugh, Sanni, Hull, Ferg, Nate, Milliens, Wilson, Feldmeyer, JB45, Hawthorne, Howe, Dickinson

thats a LOT of ppl who either start or could be starting that have been injured.

this is a recipe for disaster with all these injuries to a team that already lacks depth

Robert asks if Beckman can get the boys in the proper state of mind at the end of this. My answer is simply no, certainly not the upper classmen, we will have to wait until he has his guys, his type of guys, I believe that we will be fine after that.

+ Thornton (LT), Bates (MLB) and maybe Jon Davis (TE/RB/WR) ?

I have family up in Minnesota, and for 3 years I saw that state watch their football program waste away under Tim Brewster and I listened to them year after year, for 3 years, with a tone of desperation and despair in their voices saying "We just need to wait until Tim Brewster gets his guys into the system". They were like a broken record. And I could tell that deep down they knew there was no hope, but hope was all they had. I have never seen a more miserable bunch of football fans.

Sound familiar? I really hope we are not on the same path, but all signs indicate that we are.

Well I guess our opinions differ because Tim Beckman != Tim Brewster

Beckman may have his shortcomings, but yes he is nothing like Brewster. Brewster had never been a coordinator or head coach and was clearly out of his element trying to manage a program. We know that Beckman was successful at Toledo, now we just need to see if he can replicate that success at Illinois.

I agree, that Tim Beckman is not Tim Brewster. But based on the data I have thus far, I am worried because these situations are starting to look eerily similar, especially when I am starting to hear the same excuses that I was hearing out of Minnesota for years.

Maybe this time the desperation excuse/hope that "We just need to wait for him to get his guys" will turn out to be true. I really hope so.

In the vast majority of cases, new coaches need time to get their players and implement their schemes. Almost everyone says they need more time, their players, etc... So in that sense Beckman also sounds a lot like Avarez, Ferentz and Dantonio when the were getting their programs going.

I'm more worried about the astounding number of turnovers than anything Beckman says.
