Langley is tied with Russell Henley for the lead at the Sony Open in Hawaii. They both have a total of 193 strokes, which is the lowest ever for this event. Pretty impressive play by Langley, I watched some of the play last night, he's really got the putter working.
Luke Guthrie also made his Tour debut but didn't fare as well, missing the cut. |

Not a great final round for Langley, but he did birdie the final 2 holes to finish in a tie for 3rd. No one was going to beat Henley who shot 63 to run away with the event. Great start to Langley's career, he's tied for 7th in the FedEx Cup standings and made a cool $324,800 for his work. That's probably around half of what he needs to win to keep his card for next season.

On the PGA tour this week, Scott Langley missed the cut by one shot, but Luke Guthrie finished tied for 27th to cash his first paycheck of the season.
Also, I found this article on the Golf Channel site about the recent success of young American golfers, with quotes from Langley and Mike Small: http://www.golfchannel.com/news/jaso...up-to-win-now/ |

Thomas Pieters will be trying to join the other former Illini on the tour, he's turning pro after this spring. Hard to argue with this decision, I was expecting it though didn't think he'd announce so soon. Doesn't have anything left to prove at this level, might as well get started trying to get his card.

Out of the three (Scott, Luke & Thomas) I think Thomas has the most potential. We are going to be seeing alot of Illini on the PGA Tour in the coming years.
How cool would it be to see Scott & Luke and the Americans go head to head with Thomas and the Europeans at one of the Ryder Cups? __________________ ![]() |

Luke Guthrie headed towards Top 5 finish in San Diego. Love the fact his caddie is sporting the Illini logo on the back of his bib by Guthrie. Big time marketing exposure. These grads are terrific for IL golf recruiting. Coach Small must be a happy camper.

Today is "college colors" day, the best round gets $15K donated to their alma mater. Too bad the weather is so crappy so we can't see Luke's orange shirt. Still one more round to go, he's T4 right now at the end of the 3rd.
Also, Luke's caddy is his brother Zach, who was an Illini assistant coach up until this last year, so he's got Illini ties, too. |

Guthrie dropped three shots over a four-hole stretch on the back nine today to finish tied for 22nd place.
Those three shots ended up costing him over $140,000 and a guarateed full schedule after the next player re-shuffle. |

Yep, that was a costly finish. On to Phoenix and another shot. Meanwhile Langley has missed 2 straight cuts and didn't get in the field for Phoenix via the qualifier, but he has that good finish in Hawaii to help his status.

Guthrie with another solid showing and top 30 finish. Langley was very up and down, 2 good rounds and 2 bad ones. Made the cut, but gave away a lot of money with his final round. DA Points struggling a bit, missed the cut again. Bill Murray must not be bringing him any more luck these days.

See that Luke Guthrie is in a tie for 20th right now in LA.
-3 after 16 holes on Friday afternoon. Was -4 an hour ago. Hope he can get back to that on 17 or 18. I'm going to the event this weekend, so I will look for Luke ! |

Another even par round today. Not bad, but not moving up much. Keep making cuts and he'll break through eventually.

I guess since the big boys have the Accenture Match Play this weekend, our Illini tour guys have the weekend off.

Stricker is still a big boy and UI alum, even if he does wear Wisconsin gear to basketball games.
