In the signing day chat they said we'll only have 11 seniors graduating which means we won't have a very big 2014 class. May need to be a bit more selective in who we take.

There are quite a few 2014 recruits from Virginia. Are they still be actively recruited or did that ship sail when Beatty left?

If I had to guess they are just lingering offers left from Beatty. But, I may be completely wrong.

I admittedly follow the bball side of things much more than football. In fact I bdlieve ghis is my first post on the football side. Anyway, what positions do we need to fill in this class? It seems like in tbis past class OL was taken care of. What areas do the staff need to focus on now?

I'm doing this just looking at the roster and projecting where I think people will end up at the end of the day.
Our Roster after this year (assuming no losses from the classes)

QB-2
RB-7 WR-7 TE-4 OL-11 DT-5 DE-6 LB-5 DB-15

Looking at this, I would say you would want the following in the class:

QB-2
RB-2 WR-4 TE-1 OL-4 DT-1 DE-1 LB-3 DB-3

(I am assuming the STAR position is a DB)
WR is a position where there would be a glut of seniors leaving the following year.
O'Toole and Bailey are the only QBs on the roster, it is always nice to have at least 1 per class.
I think you are insane not to take at least 4 OL every year.
Our LB core will be experienced, but this year's class has no LBs.

OL/DL should be represented in every class, imo.

I would think a QB would be targeted, so you have one in every class and can start redshirting some of those guys and developing them instead of throwing them to the wolves as a Fr. Also, a RB or 2 should be targeted.

Young WR's are needed ASAP! If this offense can resemble an actual offense, I think you will see some young WR sign up to play with Bailey (i hope). To go along with this, I think you need a legit TE as well.

Defense, I think you still have to focus on DB's. We took a fair amount of JUCO DB's, so they will be gone in 2 years. The staff better start replacing them with younger DB's sooner than later.

I would think a LB or 2 would be in order, since they didn't take one this year.

I think Beckman said the class size for 2014 would be smaller, so I can see them covering these needs with a smaller class.

I totally agree. We need to address OL depth and RB depth in this class, plus we always need WRs and DBs.

Definitely need at least one QB. At RB I think the depth is there (Ferguson, Ayoola, Foster, Walls all underclassmen this year) but it's important to get a difference maker. I think the staff goes hard after the 4* guys in the area.

I'm not sure where you're getting 4 TE's in 2014... I only see Jon Davis (Sr.), Matt LaCosse (Sr.) and Tyler White (So.) as scholarship players. So I think they may look at taking 2, with at least 1 being a blocking specialist.

On the OL might look for a few more interior guys this year since the 4 signees last year are OT's to start and Bain moved. Plus seems we may have a good shot with some in-state interior guys like JB Butler and Nick Allegretti.

Important to get a big time LB or two this year also to replace JB and play with Monheim.

I counted Lattimore, and I am not sure why. I am not truly sure he makes it into 2013. So I would agree, that might make 2 TE's.

Agree. I think RB and LB are the top priorities for next year's recruiting class.

Who's everyone's top choice at RB? I think mine would go. 1 justin Jackson and a very close mikale Wilbon at 2 and Chris James at number 3. Also throw Ashton Jackson from trotwood in the mix with Jackson and Wilbon.

I like Josh Cazley from Charleston, IL but I am biased. A game changer.

Anyone know Josh Cazley's approximate 40 time? He looks pretty fast and Charleston is pretty strong team year in and year out, their competition is also strong so they are not just sleepwalking through games.

I would think Cazley wouldn't be a hard sell either. He would have two brothers at UI. One in law school and the other on the FB team. If I recall Josh and Dillan were living with their older brother while he was an undergraduate student. I would imagine that they are pretty close if that is the case.

Lets get a friendly wager going. Who does everyone think the first commit will be?
I'm tuna go out on a limb and say its going to be an out of state kid.
My guess is Ohio LB Dorian Hendrix.

Josh is a very fast player. But you couldn't be farther from the truth about charleston being good year in and year out. They usually are not very good. And their competition is a huge joke. The Apollo may be the worst football conference I've ever seen. Josh also needs to brush up on his classroom skills a bit. He is not nearly as mature as his brother is. But it's nothing that can't be fixed.

I have no idea. My best guess would be Tommy Mister (IL - Richards HS)

I like the younger Cazley a lot. In fact, I think he can be a good pick-up in the 2014 recruiting class. Although he is small, he is quick & shifty.

But Charleston's competition schedule is extremely weak. The Apollo Conference may be the weakest 4A conference in the state. That said, the Trojans had a nice little two year run.
