Same thing people said about domask. Not saying he is domask, but he is very skilled offensively. Just because a guy isn't athletic, doesn't mean he can't be a stud.
where was I at for all this Domask hate? because I don't remember any of it. I remember people saying, ok not who we were expecting but this guy looks like a stat stuffer, and the board was generally pleased.
The most shocking thing about Domask was his portal ranking, which was quite frankly stupid. The guy was player of the year for Wisconsin as a Sr. He was Fr of the Year in the MVC and 2nd team all conference his first year at SIU. Injured as a Soph, then 2nd team again as a Jr and 1st team all conference as a Sr. He averaged 17, 6, and 4 as a Sr while shooting 45% from the field, 35% from 3 and 85% FT. Never averaged less than 13 ppg. Always over 82% FTs, over 5 rpg as a guard, etc. In short, no one who looks at his stats should have been even slightly shocked at his performance, especially given he was 6'6" 215 and a 5th year player.
With Humrichous, there is far more unknown. He spent 3 years at the NAIA level, then stepped in to the 10th place MVC team and played quite well. But the MVC is a pretty mediocre, top heavy, mid-major conference. Humrichous was either 3rd team or honorable mention all MVC, can't remember which. He was the scholar athlete of the year, though I have no idea what that is. He actually scored more points and shot much better from 3 at Evansville than he did in the NAIA.
Point being, Humrichous certainly looks good, but he doesn't have the pedigree Domask did. If anyone expects him to be a lead player, I think that's awfully risky. I'd personally see him as a Goode replacement. Someone off the bench that can hopefully hit you a 3.
Everyone is reacting prematurely, because we still don't have our full roster yet, so I've tried to hold off and be patient. One thing I'll say, we need someone who can give us at least 75% of what Shannon did. I don't see anyone we're apparently in tight with right now. David Jones would fit that bill, but remember, FedEx just pledged a ton of money to Memphis. I certainly don't think we can pencil him into the roster. We need someone that can carry the load when needed, and Shannon carried an awful lot of the load for this team last season.
