Our best scenario now: Indiana and NW win. We will be 7th seed playing Penn State (10th), and then NW (2nd).
If Indiana and Rutgers win, we will be 7th seed playing Penn State (10th), and then Indiana (2nd).
If Michigan and NW win, we will be 8th seed playing Rutgers (9th), and then Purdue (1st).
If Michigan and Rutgers win, we will be 9th seed playing Indiana (8th), and then Purdue (1st). Worst scenario.
If Indiana wins, we're a 7 no matter what

We want Indiana & NW. That would be the dream bracket for us with NW as the 2 and a Friday night matchup looming if we beat PSU.

Who would we play if Michigan and NW win and who would we play if Michigan and Rutgers win?

*Edit

Thank you for those who broke it down. Looks like I'll be rooting for Indiana, but if Michigan wins I'll root for Northwestern over Rutgers.

Although I would not look forward to Penn State, at this point I don't care much about BTT results so I'm more intrigued to see if we would play better than the previous two matchups. Although PSU would still be looking for another win to move off the bubble.

How many wins if any would the team need to get to the 7 line and avoid an 8-9? I imagine a win over Indiana would be more valuable for that than one over Penn State. Rutgers is obviously the most favorable matchup if we are talking about just trying to get to Friday.

I think it should be a straight up bracket, have every team get an equal chance, just like the ncaa tourney.
No way they'll do that. They want it at one location and it is tough to play more than 4 games in a day. Also, then your champ and runner up must have played 4 games. One of the original cases for having the tourney at all was to prepare teams for the NCAA tourney (and obviously because it makes money). I'm not sure wearing your best teams out with 4 games in 4 days is good prep for the tourney.

I really don't think that's the dream bracket.... Seems like facing a very depleted Rutgers followed by a Purdue rematch would be a much better path to me rather than facing a tough PSU matchup followed by a Northwestern team that plays solid defense and a senior backcourt who thrives on turning you over, or an Indiana team who in my opinion is our toughest matchup in the B10. I'm more confident we can beat Purdue than I am we can beat PSU for what it's worth.

Not to mention with expansion, there is no possible way of having an equal bracket, unless spread over multiple stadiums. IMO, the byes are the best thing for the conference, as it makes the regular season records more important; and as you mention, allow the best teams to not get over taxed for the NCAA Tournament.

I think having top seeds playing in quarterfinals are completely justified, unlike the WCC, where the top 2 seeds automatically receive byes into semifinals of conference tourney.

Forty-five years is less than brief. What I definitely lack, though, is a persecution complex. Neither the refs, nor the NCAA is out to get us. I'll even go as far as knowing the boogeyman is not right around the corner.
You are probably too young then to know about the University slush fund scandal that brought down football and basketball in 1966. Illini sports were scorched earth for along time (multiple decades) and some claim maybe even through today.

None of those scenarios will be good for the faint of heart Illini fan. They are all going to be tough 1 or 2 possession games from here on out. Let's go boys.

Of course they are, even Brad cannot bellieve how they conspire against us. :)

As it stands right now, Penn State would be Q2 game (57 in NET). Indiana and Rutgers are a lock for a Q1 game (28 and 37 in NET).

And in case anyone needs a reminder, a Q1 neutral site game is 1-50; Q2 is 51-100.

So root like hell for Mich and NW. Rutgers is reeling right now. I could even live with facing IU again. Just keep us away from the bad man Jalen Pickett is all I ask lol.
