Well I guess there is always the chance that Geoff would be considered for the Indiana State job when it opens up soon...hmmmm

I haven't been on the site for a while. Do we expect risk of Brad leaving for another gig like all the hubbub last year?

Sure hope Brad gets a heck of a raise and very soon!!! It scares me to hear the numbers being thrown around that Michigan is willing to pay for their coach. If I'm not mistaken, Brad is around 5.5 to 6 million, and rumors are Michigan is willing to pony up 8,9, 10 million. Indy...0440...other insiders , should we be worried?

I'd prefer to wait and see how the Illini do this NCAA Tournament personally.

Just in case anyone was needing a reason to root for one of the underdogs in the NCAA Tournament:

Dambrot has coached at Duquesne since 2017, where his father played on #1 ranked teams during the early 1950s. Dambrot also coached 13 seasons at Akron and coached Lebron during James' first two years of high school. Dambrot did say in his announcement today that he is retiring to take care of his wife, who has been battling breast cancer since last year.

Naturally they're in our side of the bracket, aren't they?

I wonder if John Groce has ever thought about coaching in the Missouri Valley? I think he'd actually do well and it is a step up from the MAC level of competition. He seems to have done well at Ohio U and now at Akron and if I were Southern Illinois or Indiana St, I'd probably put some feelers out to him to see if he'd be interested. I believe the jump from the MAC to Big 10 was just too much for him but a jump to the Missouri Valley would fit well for him if he wanted the challenge

That is an extreme amount of money for a coach, in fact anything over 8.5 you would be the highest paid coach in the nation. In fact Brad is the 8th highest paid coach currently in the nation and here is the breakdown for the Big 10

  • Tom Izzo, Michigan State, $5,738,727
  • Brad Underwood, Illinois, $4,600,550
  • Kevin Willard, Maryland, $3,900,000
  • Greg Gard, Wisconsin, $3,637,500
  • Juwan Howard, Michigan, $3,616,000
  • Matt Painter, Purdue, $3,580,000
  • Chris Holtmann, Ohio State, $3,500,000
  • Fred Hoiberg, Nebraska, $3,250,000
  • Fran McCaffery, Iowa, $3,208,000
  • Mike Woodson, Indiana, $3,075,000
  • Steve Pikiell, Rutgers, $3,000,000
  • Chris Collins, Northwestern, $2,893,064
  • Ben Johnson, Minnesota, $2,009,000

Brad is very well compensated at Illinois.

He is well compensated. However, considering general consistency and recent success, seems like Izzo, BU and Painter should be ahead of the pack by a mile.
