Wouldn't it be crazy if Pitt were to decide they want to be a BB school and opened the vault for Sean Miller and Orlando Antigua? Of course they would have to close their eyes, hold their noses and move NIL from FB to BB.

Taking emotion out of it, if that comes to pass, I can completely understand his reasoning for leaving. Those are his guys and he feels like his owes those guys every opportunity to play. Everyone's view on the portal is different. Painter has huge success just dabbling in the portal to fill gaps(let's see what happens with no Edey). Izzo obviously hasn't bought in and seems to be struggling. Oats built an entire roster based on the portal.

Over the next few years, more clarity will be had as these coaches will see trends and development when it comes to roster building. I personally believe that living in the portal is unsustainable. You have to develop your prep recruits, then supplement. With that comes probably a one year rebuild. Many fan bases won't accept that.

We'll see how things break going forward. Hoping that this off-season chaos slows down across the country, but I'm a traditionalist. Good luck to Chester.
Beyond feeling like he owes them an opportunity, he owes it to himself to be viewed as a guy who will protect and lobby for his recruits. It's essential his coaching/credibility that is on the line is all his recruits get buried on the bench.

Werner says Illinois is in talks with Orlando, and willing to pay top dollar for him to return. Another name is Georgia's Erik Pastrana, coached with Underwood at SFA.

Werner’s correct … O has always been on the table … I’ve hinted at that for months that Brad would love to get Mike or O back … @illini0440 has hinted at this as well …

Whitman has been busy this past weekend/this morning securing the financial piece and I’ve now been told the financial piece is in place …

It’s up to O … If he decides to stick with Cal then we have other options on the table that I’ve brought up here … Pastrana would also be in the mix but think Cohen and Clark would be in front of him … No guarantee they say yes though …

As he should.....Orlando's value isn't just in being a top recruiter but in his ability to develop big men. He should turn Morez into a 1st Team All B1G player.

What he did with Leron Black was incredible.
True. I just wish OA hadn't also been his armorer.. that was going too far.

Josh Whitman man… What a guy.

OA would be great to work with the bigs- given Bradshaw just committed to Ohio state, not sure who OA would be able to bring here - Onyenso would give us a 7 ft shot blocker and rim protecter, sign me up for that

I would take OA back. He was great recruiting Feliz, Curbelo Kofi, RJ. Good big man coach. I wish we could have seen what he would have done with Dain.

Funny thing was Kentucky did not get major recruiting bump from hiring Chin and OA. JMO- OA might have better chance at getting another HC opportunity if he worked under Brad who is still a rising star vs. Calipari who is definitely trending downward (like Weber going to KSU after Illinois).

Imagine if we had Z to play vs. Edey and Clingan in the tourney.

Indy, I think you mentioned before that a second AC position may open up? Is that still the case?

This is a very good sign- Whitman is not going to the trouble of lining up the financial piece unless OA is serious about coming here

I would think part of the draw for him here is Brad’s stability and recent success. Cal is going to under enormous pressure given his contract to win instantly at Arkansas and if that doesn’t happen OA might not want to deal with that noise

If JW wanted to secure some money for me, I have a lot of general skills!

I've taught sports marketing, video editing, military leadership, school administration, coached several sports, been H-R coach of the year, etc.

I could probably do what hamer is doing and add additional duties for less money.

Just a thought if we are gathering money...

No matter how crazy the news gets around here, it’s soo comforting knowing we have a capable and competent leader in charge as AD.
+1000. Having a quality AD at the helm feels similar to how I'd imagine it is when you have a quality owner of a professional sports team. You can feel confident that even if you need to enter a rebuild, it will be done in a smart, efficient manner. If only the Bulls could trade out Jerry Reinsdorf (Mike Thomas) for a Whitman equivalent...

Hmm.. has there be anything to confirm Chester’s departure. There is so much smoke but nothing official I have seen anywhere. Has anyone seen anything and if not by now, that also seems really off. Not liking a coach leaving and multiple players either decommitting / transferring. Am I the only one ?

While you never want to lose what seem like good coaches and players this doesn’t seem as devastating as losing what seemed to be our entire coaching staff when OA and CC left for Kentucky. Josh and Brad have proven themselves to be perfectly competent to do what is needed to compete AND win. It will be fine.
