Orlando has an retention bonus coming up in June that would be 400k ... Dana does not want to leave UK ... I think Pope wants to bring in his own guys ...

Orlando is very open to leaving ... Understands the financial piece is not a problem here and he could be back with Brad ...

That is where the situation is as of right now ...

Wasn't OA leaving UK anyways to follow Cal to Arkansas?

Pope would be crazy not to want to keep Orlando on, but I get it as far as having "your" guys. For our sake I hope he does bring his own staff with him. I just hope having to get out of Lexington might sway Mrs. Antigua to want to go back to somewhere somewhat familiar.

If Pope wants to bring in his own staff and terminates OA, does the retention bonus become part of a severance package? Perhaps a win-win all the way around.

If I am OA, I'm not going anywhere, until...
1. I get my retention bonus
2. Pope fires me

If 1, Are Josh and Brad willing to wait around for this to happen? Especially considering that Dana is the reason OA left the last time!

Sounds like first come, first serve time. Boynton or Orlando and I would be fine with either. I just hope this being slow played, doesn't bite us in the a&&

Well it’s probably not Dana’s choice but one can always hope.

Hey Coal, hit start a conversation and tell me what years you lived on "Penthouse." As a former "Penthouser" I'm curious to see if we know one another.

I must have missed it in another thread but why did Chester leave? Is this new position considered a promotion?

Antigua signed a three-year contract upon returning to Kentucky, and that deal expires this summer on June 30, 2024. If Antigua is still on staff at the end of June, he will then be owed a $400,000 “retention bonus,” per the terms of his contract. So if Pope does not intend on trying to retain him at Kentucky, then he is in a bind because there is no way Orlando will voluntarily leave before the end of June so that he collects the retention bonus. Kentucky will either have to buy it out early so that Pope can have another coach signed on his staff and out on the recruiting trail or whatever team that signs Orlando as an assistant will have to pay him the bonus as part of his compensation package, which is no small amount. It may be a matter of who blinks first since the end of June is a long way off with all of the portal activity currently taking place.

Boynton has NOT signed with Michigan! He announced that he was taking the position but it is a verbal commitment which is why he apparently is reconsidering his options now that Brad has an opening on his staff.
I’m really hoping we get him, but he’s already embraced Michigan on his socials (which is another reason why I’d be so happy to have him get hired away from them).

I don't think it's been said by insiders unless I also missed it. It's worth noting with this WVU gig, he's closer to home, closer to where he primarily recruits, and closer to where he'd likely get a head coaching job, and know from insiders that in the weeks prior he had been interviewing/trying to get interviews for head coaching gigs in that region without any luck. So maybe if he goes and is the associate head coach at WVU and plays a seemingly large role in their potential rebuild, it would more likely lead to him getting a head coaching job than continuing the status quo in Champaign. To answer your main question tho, it is technically a promotion since it's assistant coach to associate head coach.

Also, I doubt his recruits getting consistently recruited over by transfers helped the situation if any of the above is the case, especially if Devries lets some of them tag along to Morgantown
