Dude… you’re the one who started the Billy Beane discussion by bringing up Billy Beane.

But sport aside, the parallels equate. Those teams that try to get by on the cheap more often than not show cheap results. Meanwhile, the teams that spend big (Yankees, Dodgers) may not win every championship, but they’re ALWAYS in the discussion. The A’s seldom, if ever are.

I’m not saying we should’ve paid what Storr was asking or that he’ll immediately solve KU’s national championship needs. But I want Illinois to error on the side of spending big as opposed to penny pinching.

We don’t need him anymore. OA is coming and he will be good for bringing in at least two starters.

I feel sorry for our opponents next year. This Illini team is going to be so good that it won’t be

Where did this Illinois is penny pinching narrative come from? Because we didn't want to give Storr 1 mill?, and get his girlfriend a scholarship on the women's team she didn't earn, not including all the other things not talked about? We had him, his camp changed the parameters beyond our willingness to pay.

Man, you could not be more wrong on this. The MLB playoffs are a crapshoot, a la the NCAA tournament. The A's under Beane, before other teams realized what he was doing, VASTLY outperformed their payroll during the regular season. They were absolutely incredible from 2000-2003, including winning 102 and 103 games in back to back seasons.

The OP was not saying that Illinois should or will pinch pennies. They were simply saying that missing on a player (when a budget is involved) is often times less damaging that overpaying for a player.

Flightradar24 is my favorite. Amazing level of detail. Son went to Kenya on a mission trip and knew everything practically to the second
Last night letting the dog out I noticed 4 contrails coming from a large jet above. Knew it would be something rare since it was a quad jet. Immediately flight tracked it, was rare Airbus 380 flying from Dallas to London (British Airways):geek:

I wouldn’t go quite that far for me. But I wasn’t crazy about him, so not torn up at all with the “miss.” While might not end up with a better player, could very well end up with a better player for Illini.
The other thing that I didn't really care for is that he'd have been coming from a close in-conference rival. That just feels wrong to me.

No matter what we get or don't get in the portal, having OA back is the biggest move we could have made this off-season. TA and OA are going to do an incredible job recruiting together. And then there's what he will do with Morez and Booth. Pretty darn exciting.
Well said. Agree upgrading to OA will be the biggest get this off season.

With the new AC mix including OA, obviously BU decides all schemes, but who is the offense and defense X’s and O’s guys likely to be next year? While the pro style match up offense works with the right chess pieces, with all the money we’re spending on ACs, certainly one of them is a tactical expert?? Brad’s always studying new schemes. our defensive scheme needs an enema and the O needs to be more sophisticated at times. Thoughts anyone? Anyone agree or disagree? Love to hear it honestly.

Based on offensive success last year I'm guessing Tyler0440 keeps working on the offense
