Script is the best but really this shows how much better jerseys look when the text has an outline.

The ones without an outline look almost like practice jerseys. I'm sure there is a term for what I'm trying to say but that is the only way I can put it.

They literally look cheap, simplistic and lazy in what appears to be some cringe attempt to chase a "minimalist" trend that has probably already gone out of style now. Sometimes I think I am too hard on them because they are rather inoffensive, but man ... they're just bad uniforms.

I had previously done a history of our orange default jerseys, so ... time for the whites!

I would agree these along with the Fighting Illini uni's are the best... To bad they couldn't make some new flouresent orange uniforms..

As much as I dislike our current white default jersey, I think they are much better than any of these other ones... we just need to outline the orange letters and Numbers with blue.
A navy outline would certainly help, but the true culprit is the awful font, especially the lettering being comically small compared to the number. Plus, this is all KIND of a pointless argument, at least to me ... because we have two ELITE throwbacks. The only reason to insist on us coming up with a totally new design to go along with them, IMO, is hubris or incompetence by Nike. We aren't going to do better.

If we don’t do this throwback white this year it is a colossal failure of epic cottage cheese and beach house proportions.
Heads should roll.
I really loved that uni design, minus the bagginess (and not just because we were amazingly good that year). Agree that if we don't do a version of these it would be a travesty.

I'm worried they'll only bust out orange or white (if we are even lucky enough to get one...), and I think you kind of HAVE to go with the orange throwbacks if you only pick one ... but the whites would look so great at home!

The whites were easily the best looking of the 04-05 unis. Gotta go with those if we have to make a choice.

Aesthetically, I agree ... but that team was kind of famous (at least at the time, at least to me!) for NEVER wearing the navy jerseys one time that year. I would not be shocked if they were the only Illini team to ever do that in a season in the last 25+ years. It seemed they literally wore orange if they could and only wore white vs. teams with only a red away jersey like Wisconsin or Arizona. So, I think any branders or whatever will consider the orange more associated with that team.

But for fun ... I tried to look it up, lol. 2005 game by jersey:

WHITE vs. Delaware State
WHITE vs. Florida A&M
WHITE vs. Oakland
ORANGE vs. #24 Gonzaga (Indianapolis, IN)
ORANGE vs. #1 Wake Forest
ORANGE at Arkansas (Little Rock, AR)
ORANGE vs. Chicago State
ORANGE at Georgetown
ORANGE vs. Oregon (Chicago, IL)
ORANGE vs. Valparaiso
ORANGE vs. Missouri (St. Louis, MO)
WHITE vs. Longwood
ORANGE vs. Northwestern State (Las Vegas, NV)
WHITE vs. #22 Cincinnati (Las Vegas, NV)
WHITE vs. Ohio State
ORANGE at Purdue
ORANGE vs. Penn State
ORANGE at Northwestern
ORANGE vs. #23 Iowa
ORANGE at #18 Wisconsin
[Orange Flyin' Illini Throwbacks] vs. Minnesota
ORANGE at #12 Michigan State
WHITE vs. Indiana
ORANGE at Michigan
WHITE vs. #20 Wisconsin
ORANGE at Penn State
ORANGE at Iowa
ORANGE vs. Northwestern
ORANGE vs. Purdue
ORANGE at Ohio State
ORANGE vs. Northwestern (BTT in Chicago, IL)
WHITE vs. Minnesota (BTT in Chicago, IL)
WHITE vs. #23 Wisconsin (BTT in Chicago, IL)
WHITE vs. (16) Fairleigh Dickinson (NCAAT First Round in Indianapolis, IN)
ORANGE vs. (9) Nevada (NCAAT Second Round in Indianapolis, IN)
ORANGE vs. (12) UW-Milwaukee (NCAAT Sweet Sixteen in Rosemont, IL)
WHITE vs. (3) #9 Arizona (NCAAT Elite Eight in Rosemont, IL)
ORANGE vs. (4) #4 Louisville (NCAAT Final Four in St. Louis, MO)

BTW, Illinois' website had a picture of every game so this was SO much less difficult than I thought it would be! :ROFLMAO: I guess they actually wore the white more than I thought, the orange just stuck in my memory because they wore it for EVERY road game and also a significant number of home games.

What year was the orange vs red travesty at home against Wisconsin? I remember watching on my crappy 27" non-HD TV trying to figure out which team just got the rebound😂

Alas ... burn those rags!! :ROFLMAO: While I am sure Nike will find a way to mess this up, next year's uniform lineup should be such a no-brainer that a trained monkey would come up with it:

Home: Flyin' Illini WHITE (wore up until about 4-5 years ago)
Away: Flyin' Illini ORANGE (currently have)
Alternate: Flyin' Illini NAVY (have not seen since the 1980s)
Throwback #1: Script WHITE (currently have)
Throwback #2: 2005 ORANGE (20th anniversary ... this is such a frickin' obvious move)

Or for our visual learners...

HOME
(Preferably touched up to be more similar to the Flyin' Illini orange below)

Get it done, Nike! It's so obvious!!
This is perfect, but I'm on board with the script becoming our home and not needing the home Flying Illini uni.

In the name of consistency, I do think we should have one uniform set in all three colors. Whether that's the script or the Flying Illini, I don't have a major preference. But we have a great color scheme, so I would like to have a "primary" set in white, orange, and navy.

I'll go back to what I wrote earlier and offer this proposal.
Primary - Flying Illini model. The one thing I'd modify is to have "Illinois" instead of "Fighting Illini" for either the navy or the orange uniform - probably the navy. I am something of an old school person when it comes to uniforms and like it when the state/city name is on the road uniform. For years, the Boston Celtics had "Celtics" on their home uniforms and "Boston" on their road green uniforms. Use the same font style, but have that difference.

White alternate - Scripts. Enough said.
Orange 2004-2005 throwback. While I get the white version of the uniform looks great, we wore orange so much that year that I think we need to use orange. Plus, we already have a great white throwback uniform. I'd prefer to keep that and use the orange for the 20-year throwback.
