How did this guy get 11,100 followers on Youtube? Seriously, I'd like to know. It's obviously not because he's particularly perspicacious.
This video is embarrassing. Again so many uneducated folks out there that are making more people uneducated.

We need to throw the defensive efficiency out the window with this team. We have shown over the last month we can be a very good defensive team. Are we a top defensive team? Not consistently. I think we are good enough defensively that our offense can compensate and beat almost anyone. We have proven that during the BTT and NCAA tourney.

Congrats to Luke, while the 3’s were pretty, it was knocking down those two free throws that had me concerned! Way to come up big.

Also, one play I noted that many aren’t talking about is Coleman going air born and laying his body out for the inbound steal in the backcourt after the TJ steal and dunk. That type of effort, reminiscent of Lucas Johnson, is contagious and a huge lift to the team. My pet peeve last year and early this year was every time there seemed to be a loose ball, we reached down to get it instead of diving to the floor for control. The little things make a huge difference.

I for one had absolutely no problem with Dain's attempted spin and behind the back breakaway dribble drive. One, it happened so fast that he really didn't have much time to think, and it was so unusual a happening that he would have needed time to think to make the right play. And two, if he had pulled that off, he would have been a legend in Illinois and NCAA tournament lore. Those opportunities are rare. That a guy his size could even make an attempt at that was impressive in itself.

Harmon's shot is off but he's been mainly put into games to defend. Goode's shot has been there during the B10 and NCAA tournament. Just clutch 3's at the right time
Harmon's also a great FT shooter, good option for end of game scenarios, Goode is only so so from the line.

Correct me if I'm wrong, this is only the 2nd time we have beaten a team seeded better than us. The other time was beating 4 Cincinnati as a 5 seed in 2004
Also won as a 9 vs 8. Don’t remember year or opponent

But very rare for Illinois. Let’s make it more common with a win Saturday night

I got that same video and watched 2 minutes of that one and tried one more. For some reason, my YouTube won’t let me comment on any video right now and it’s probably a godsend

Rewatching the game. In addition to dains lapse of thinking he was TSJ on his run to the basket, he also had the block under the basket that remained inbound but Dain just stood staring down the ISU player. Got to be locked in for next game. Can't have mental lapses
He had that weak outlet pass as well, which got picked and i *think* led to an immediate three.

The diving steal attempt by Coleman after TJ's steal and dunk was just one of the most fun plays I've seen all year.

The absolute last thing that Iowa State player was thinking when he turned with the ball was that a 6'10" guy would be bearing down on him like a missile trying to make yet another steal.

It is completely in line with the identity of this team. I love it!

Someone already corrected me. 2011 vs UNLV. I forgot we were the lower seed. Hard to remember with those 8/9 games

Simple solution: Don't watch the postgame shows on TRU/TBS/TNT/CBS.

I turned immediately over to BTN after the game ended, and the coverage was all about Illini in a positive way. Why do so many of us care about what the national media/talking heads think?
These are also the people who have voted for TSJ to be third team all American. Many of these same media people should only be reporting on what happens on the court, yet continually bring up the accusations without context or facts. The same people who some folks here say to ignore, also have a major influence over future recruits and transfers. It seriously hurts the brand. If you think the media narrative doesn’t matter and to just change the channel, you’re missing my point entirely. The only real way for TSJ and the team to force media coverage and program respect is to just keep winning.

I don't believe having a player earn 3rd Team instead of 1st Team seriously hurts the brand, either at the program or individual level.

I also don't think the voters' minds work that way: "TSJ is really great, I'm gonna vote him 1st or 2nd Team, no wait he has that sex offense charge, I'll make him 3rd team." It seems much more likely that if voters were conscious (or even not) of that thought that they would have left him off entirely.

There's no bloody conspiracy against Illinois!

You know NIL exists, right? Money talks way more than your perceived bias in the media against Illinois. Also, I highly disagree with the suggestion that there is a broad media conspiracy disrespecting the program or TSJ. This narrative is getting very tiresome.

Alabama went through the same situation last year. Low and behold, they didn't miss a beat. Let it go and let people say what they want to say.

In regards to brand....with the portal and NIL, it's all about $$$$$. Sadly, that defines a school's brand nowadays.

By my count, there were 12 possessions where Domask was trapped and it directly led to a shot attempt or turnover. There were about 5 others where he passed out of it and the offense reset, or it was during a full court press and we successfully advanced the ball, or the ball was tipped out of bounds to us. I suppose in those other cases, it took time off the shot clock and eliminated his booty ball, but that's more difficult to quantify.

In those 12 possessions, we scored 15 points (1.25pts per possession) and Domask committed 1 turnover. It's possible we scored even more points since I ignored what happened if there was an offensive rebound on our misses. If our players had made free throws at their typical rate, it would have been about 17 points (1.4ppp).

That is absurd efficiency against one of ISU's (presumably) more effective defensive strategies. They caused turnovers on 22% of possessions this season and roughly 0.9 points per possession, so what Domask did was amazing. Regardless of his stat line and/or deficiencies in other areas, taking away (or slicing up) an opponent's best defensive strategy is a major win for PG.

After rewatch, the better team won. Let's cause some chaos tomorrow
Not according to Drake, the tool, C. Toll.
Here's his follow-up

"Iowa State's FLUKE Loss Illinois Ends Cyclones Year & Expansion Big 12 Down to One in March Madness" I did not capitalize the word "fluke".

Iowa State fool

Sorry, I don't know how to insert a YouTube video like the other ones. Also, doesn't he have a punchable face?

I respectfully disagree with the Shannon take. Prior to the incident, every broadcast was pretty much touting him as first team All-American. Don’t think some voters, who I’m sure are named somewhere, didn’t want to be associated with him. On March 14th, CBS posts an article projecting him as first team and he ends up third team. There are some lists that he didn’t even make third team for I’m sure the same reasons. It’s a shame, he definitely earned 1st team at worst 2nd team.

How to beat UCONN (simplified version).

1) Play with the same effort and energy you did against ISU.
2) Shoot better.

That is all.

You mean the broadcast networks were touting him for 1st Team, but the voters weren't because they didn't want to be associated with him, yet they associated with him anyways by signing off on him being 3rd Team?

Whatever the conspiracy was in this case, my point was that it's not "seriously hurting the brand."
