Illinois 77, Ohio State 74 Postgame

Sooooo, after losing my brother on February 4th, I lost my 67 yo brother-in-law, my sister’s husband, to pancreatic cancer this afternoon. Even though he was a staunch UW and Packer fan, he appreciated my family’s fanaticism to Illinois. At times tonight, with my heart already hurting, I thought I might be next. Thank you, Coleman, Dain, Ty, and Terrence, for pulling this one out. I’m toasting with vodka to Russell and my Illini tonight… 🧡 💙
Sympathy to you my Illini sister.......glad the Illini came through with the win to bring some joy to you today......
Tough year for you so far....we got your back , dear one.
We really really do.....

So sorry your family has once again lost a loved one. Blessings in the days to come.

I am going to give some credit to the Illini fans. Our team treated us to quite a few minutes of bad basketball. Did we quit on them? No. As the final minutes counted down we were on our feet imploring the team to get a stop. The atmosphere in Target Center was electric orange!!

Nebraska also appears to have a good fan base in town. It should be fun.
🧡🏀💙

I am lmao. Coach said, " nice to get boards at end of the game". Well big Dainja was in with Cohawk. Wtf. Not hard to figure out. Your not playing MaC or MAAC teams.

Yes Ty is playing like his early season self again.
Ty I think is a really interesting case as when TSJ was out, I thought he really stepped up and was one of the biggest reasons why we had the successes we did during that time. He was aggressive, very involved with the flow of the offense, attacking the basket and rim along with playing some very solid defense on the other end of the floor. Just an all around leader. But when TSJ came back, Ty became a lot more passive, almost like he saw himself as the 5th best option on offense, so he started giving up the ball again immediately, 30ft from the basket, never looking to score.

The thing is, that's not the Ty we need. Ty is at his best when he's attacking the rim- forcing the opponent to do something about it or give him an open layup or free offensive rebound. This opens up room for everyone else, and leads to great ball movement and open lanes and shots. Aggressive Ty is a double double threat and a physical smothering defender who can kill you on the boards. And these past three games it has been great seeing him return to that mentality. He's going to be a valuable part of the postseason and one hell of an upperclassman.

I still can't believe OSU had more than twice as many fouls called than we did 😂 what an insanely screwed up game. We get outplayed all night, and still found a way to win. Survive and advance season baby! The basketball gods are on our side!!

Looks like we are playing Nebraska tomorrow. At the half Tominaga is 70% from the field, 67% from three.
When we're on, ya gotta shot better than 70% from 3 to beat us. Ask MInnesota. :ROFLMAO:.

OSU played their butts off, Diebler found whatever switch Holtmann had lost.
There had to be something more causing the firing. He most evidently had lost this team. Not all about X’s and O’s.

I managed to keep my consumption down to three during the game. Now I have to go find three more bottles to replace them . . . .

Condolences to you and your family. Good to hear the Illini were able to provide you some temporary distraction from a tough couple of months!

Coleman’s D on Battle in the last few minutes was huge
Was saying it most of the game. Domask on battle wasn’t working. Hawkins should guard battle. Change made down the stretch

when you can fight to stay in a game and find a way to win, even when you're not playing your best, shows character and that's what it takes to move forward. I wish Underwood could adopt a little of Fred Hoiberg's calm demeanor and didn't really understand his comments after the game. The Buckeyes are a damn good team, certainly playing at a level that deserves to be in the tournament. I'm really proud of our guys.

By all metrics, Ohio State has been a top 15 team since they fired their coach, going on a month now. Had won 6 of 7 including against Purdue. Round of 32/S16 type of game. Absolutely huge to find a way to win when we didn’t have our fastball.

The good, I don’t think we’ve played that well the last 3 games and have managed to go 2-1 with a road and neutral win and the only loss against a one seed who had to go nuclear from 3 and get a couple of lucky bounces.

The bad, I think Coleman’s leg injury from early this year has flared up again, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence we’ve lost our fastball when he’s slowed down. Hope he can heal up by next week.
I am torn about how many games we should play in BTT. IMO, we should rest CH on bench from now on.

OSU threw two guys at him whenever he closed in. Late, he took notice of that and found both Ty and Dain on multiple occasions.
That has something to it but he always weren’t doing as well when there’s only one defender. Good tournament practice.
