And I'll never fully understand that, TBH.

We were told this was a “huge” recruiting weekend. Is this the only possible commit to come out of it?

Admittedly, I don’t follow IL football more than casually. I suppose I (and many others) just don’t understand why IL isn’t a more successful program by now. Others like Carolina, Kansas, Mizzou have made huge gains recently, with their mediocre programs now being competitive. Why can’t we? Does it come down to more NIL or will it take a new/higher profile coach to attract the talent/staff needed for B1G success?
We have changed coaches way too much over the last 30 years. I think we have the right coach. Just going to have to be patient.
Adding the west coast teams does not help.

If this was 5 years ago, sure. But, this isn't a Drink thing. They have tons of NIL and they are committed to winning (admin, state legislatures, etc.). If Drink leaves (which is doubtful b/c Mizzou can pay him plenty), they'll just get the next big name. As long as the current NIL landscape exists, Mizzou will be a big player. They can spend with the blue bloods regardless of coach
Stop killing our dreams

Illinois stunk (Moeller Valek) and was mediocre (Blackman) in late 60's and all thru 70's.
I went to school in 80's when Mike White was selling out Memorial Stadium 70,000 seats per game. The crowds were so loud that the concrete started falling off the bottom of 2nd deck and they had to rebuild it. The fans will return if we can regularly put an 8-4 team on the field and be competitive in games with OSU, Michigan, Penn State, USC and Oregon.

The part I will never understand is that the super wealthy alumni Illinois has (and they obviously/absolutely exist!) are not embarrassed and pissed that their school is behind a school like Mizzou to the point that they are willing to step up and enhance our NIL!
Many people, including many filthy rich people, just don't care about sports.
I understand that may be difficult for us crazies here to understand. 😝

It's simple if I am thinking correctly. Mizzou has Walmart Family money. That's a lot of $$$$$$.
It's not just Walmart family, it's other boosters as well. Their football practice facility is named for my cousin who is a self-made wealthy hedge fund manager.

They have done a better job at cultivating wealthy donors to invest in their football program or that is what it seems like to me. I see pics all the time from my cousin and his family (he & wife went to Mizzou) w/ Drinkwitz (he visits their house, brings gifts to his kids, etc.).

Sounds like you should probably just go ahead and hate your cousin. You have my permission. /s
