I think this right here is good advertising for Brad and Illinois. Especially the one where he comes in blaster firing with his shirt off. It shows potential targets the willingness of Brad to have fun with the guys and not just being a floor General that can get angry when they don't do what they are supposed to. Basically a couch that gets on you when you're screwing up and praises you when you are getting it right. There needs to be both of those in my opinion.

Very interesting how many portal guys they’re looking at who are NOT seniors or grad transfers. The roster will not be nearly as experienced as this year’s if the rumors all pan out. Building for a two-year run?

Why not? A year of chemistry and then go for broke in 2026 when we could play all 6 NCAAT games within a 3 hour drive...

Keep in mind that with this upcoming season being the final possible covid-bonus-year, I expect this trend to hold. Finding guys with three years' experience and two years' eligibility or guys who completed their degree and now want to play ball wherever won't be a thing unless they redshirted.

Sadly, it was the other way around for most of my college life…

But tbh, that would terrify me if that actually happened your way.

The entire Indiana State starting 5 is entering the transfer portal, FWIW.

Tre White will more likely than not come off the bench...just a reminder this is a former top 35 recruit that started on an NCAA tournament team as a freshman. Made the wrong decision to transfer to Louisville. Not sure you can take much away from him last year as that team was not coached at all and the kids were left out to be exposed essentially.

I think he ends up being a really good piece. Two years left as well.

People wanted to have guys that stay multiple years-Davis, White, and Boswell will all likely be here for the next two seasons. That's huge. Our big guy we could land might be the same.

Gonna be a fun few weeks. Stay tuned.

Do we open mouth kiss before or after the magic starts?

Give me a 100+ ranked high schooler that you can teach defense if that's the approach.
If you have a high twitch athlete who can shoot and make acrobatic finishes at the hoop, you can teach him to be an elite defender.........if he wants to be. I, for one, hope BU makes the want to be quite evident to any recruit who subsequently signs to play for him. The alternative is sitting on the bench and watching the want to be guys play.

Brad can’t coach… Brad can’t get to the second weekend…yada yada yada. I heard the same stuff last year and look what happened this year.
Lol I didn't say Brad can't coach or get to the 2nd weekend.

I'm saying the projected roster for next year lacks proven difference makers. Unlike last year with Shannon, Coleman, and guy that would have put up nearly 2000 pts if he had 4 full healthy years at SIU(yes I was extremely high on Domask last summer).

Storr is the only guy that jumps off the page to me as someone that can create for themself. Boswell hasn't proven he's more than just a solid player, Maddox is a lights out shooter that I think will be very good but seems like he will be more catch and shoot at this level. Nobody else is proven.

We'll agree to disagree. Trent and Feliz were great, but that team also had Ayo and Kofi. Also, that team was fine, not great. They would have made the tournament but as a 5 seed at best.

I'm not crapping on Boswell or Maddox, I just think it should probably be one or the other. No NCAA champion since 2016 has started more than one player shorter than 6'3. If you want to win big, your best bet is to have size and length on the perimeter. The last team to do so was Duke in 2015 when they started Quinn Cook 6'2 and Tyus Jones 6'1.
I agree with you but the Baylor team was all guards between 6'2-6'4.

I agree though that I'm not crazy about trying to play all 3 of Boswell, Maddox, and DGL. Would rather take one of Boswell/Maddox and go after a bigger guard/wing. Ryan Conwell would be my take at 6'4, but wouldn't be opposed to Oweh, Stojakovic, Roddy Gayle, or Jimerson.(Jimerson, Conwell, and Stojakovic would probably be the best first because of shooting ability but I wouldn't pass on either Gayle or Oweh).

Our 1-3 is as good as anyone in the country… so that’s a positive.

Ty & Luke will be in their 3rd year in the program… both contributing on a decent & great team as fresh & soph’s

That’s 5 guys that we know we can plug in & play with…

Add 2 more in DGL & Amani who will no longer be freshmen in the program…

The bandit…. 🦌…. Makes 8….

Morez is a fringe 5 star freshman big….

Booth, Davis & Tre IMO are the wild cards… but all with some upside…

I see a lot of options & probably 10 guys at minimum that have an opportunity to make a difference next year…

I don’t like how small and young we will be…
I agree on the size and youth aspects. Just imo I don't think it's a roster that competes for a national championship like this years did(any other region and they go to the final four imo).

Almost looks like they are setting up for a run 2 years from now.

Storr probably goes pro but we thought the same about Shannon, if you could keep him for 2 years you could have some this base for your roster.

Sr: Storr, Ty, Tre White, Boswell
Jr: Sencire(RS-jr), Jake Davis, DGL, Hansberry, Booth
So: Morez, Jaksty
Fr: Fears

Obviously, some guys will transfer out from that crew or possibly go pro(Storr) but that's a veteran roster with upside that you could supplement further in the portal and compete for a championship.

Agreed. Flashy isn’t always the most effective. Before their UConn careers, not many thought Karaban or Spencer would be key starters on an all-time team.
This is a reaction to the UConn reference, not to Jake Davis (he's fine for the role he'll likely play)...

Don't know much about Karaban, but he was a 4-star recruit out of high school to UConn two years ago. Spencer had two seasons above 0.200 win shares/40min (that's very good) before UConn. Maybe nobody predicted they'd be key starters on an all-time team, but they were nothing to sneeze at.

For reference, TSJ's WS/40 was around 0.165-0.195 in his last two years before Illinois, and Domask's was around 0.161- both something to be excited about. Domask's regressed a bit this year (all due to defense, which is partly team related), while Shannon's was 0.194 last year then 0.235 this year. Of the confirmed and seemingly most likely transfers, Maddox's was the highest at 0.149, and no others were above 0.127 this year.

I trust BU, and I know some of these guys are presumed to have significant upside, but their stats just do not compare with our previous key transfers or UConn's. To pre-empt a previous snide remark I've received when saying something similar, I know this isn't fantasy basketball, and building a team requires actual scouting to get players that work well together. I'm glad I'm not responsible for these decisions, or Illinois would be terrible, but I can call it like I see it when the plan is to try to get the upside from some under-performers.

And if anything, I'd describe Storr as "flashy", but with questions about why he hasn't performed up to expectations, while Spencer was the opposite- demonstrated excellent performance, but underated because he doesn't have that flashy athleticism.

Regardless, it will be very fun to watch if BU brings out the potential in even a few of these guys.

Baylor started Jared Butler(6'3), Davion Mitchell(6'2), MaCio Teague(6'4), Mark Vital(6'5), and Flo Thamba(6'10).

While my original statement is technically valid, it's not a tall lineup. That Baylor team was otherworldly defensively though. Not saying Boswell and Maddox are bad defenders, but they aren't like that Baylor team.

If that was our roster ...

I'd say the starters would be:

Boswell
Maddox
Storr
Ty
Booth

Bench:
Tre
Rez
Amani
Goode/Davis
DGL/Buck battling it out for guard minutes
Any worries with the lack of size at the 5? Wouldn’t say Booth, Amani or Rez are true centers, positionally. Feels like it’d be helpful to bring in a vet big

Booth is 6’11. And like someone already said, we play 5 out offense and that usually doesn’t bode well for traditional big men.

ESPN has booth listed at 6’10. He was 6’8 out of high school. That kinda sounds like someone who’s in the 6’8-9 range without shoes.

And btw, huuuuge fan of Booth’s game and think he would be a massive addition. Just think we could be limiting ourselves a smidge without a real big for spot minutes.
