What I'm hearing on Maddox ...
The portal business is truly insane. Just a couple days ago, it seemed like Illinois was getting Maddox, Boswell, Storr, Booth, and possibly a 5. Now it seems they've moved on from Storr. Maddox is a Xavier lean. Booth is visiting but maybe isn't jazzed about playing the 5, and Raynaud is back at Stanford and Garrison is a no-go. I honestly have no clue what to think right now.
More upside. More size.

Bill Self, as sharp a navigator in these situations as anyone alive, giving Storr a take it or leave it final offer at the beginning of the process is beginning to seem like the savvy move.
For lots of reasons, but perhaps most of all, Kansas can still absolutely drop back in out of the clear blue sky and win the player if they want to allocate the funds to do so.
They might waste their money, but they aren't gonna waste their time.

It almost always seems that when negotiations for athletes gets strung out for too much time, we end up losing.

Booth was rated higher as a recruit in the 2023 class than Amani and played more and quite successfully as a freshman. He's also a year younger.
They're very similar players regardless.
I like both, but… based on what? Booth is a more fluid athlete, more mobile, better shooter, better ball handler, has more experience playing at the college level.

I feel bad enough just hearing that “we will put on the court the best team we can afford”
Illinois was never getting Boswell, Maddux, Storr and Booth even though many said we were. I posted numerous times it’s literally impossible. It’s not that things changed greatly. It’s that the expectations in this chat were unrealistic.
