Back injuries linger so could be Amani will never reach his potential
Any consideration we were ever going to get Raynaud was absurd for a variety of reasons, it has always been clear Storr will bail for a single extra cent (which is not yet appearing), and it has also been clear other relatively large fish were making Maddox far more central to their team and financial plans than we were. And have we ever even heard about Garrison? The portal business is truly insane. Just a couple days ago, it seemed like Illinois was getting Maddox, Boswell, Storr, Booth, and possibly a 5. Now it seems they've moved on from Storr. Maddox is a Xavier lean. Booth is visiting but maybe isn't jazzed about playing the 5, and Raynaud is back at Stanford and Garrison is a no-go. I honestly have no clue what to think right now.
100000000000%Illinois was never getting Boswell, Maddux, Storr and Booth even many said they were. I posted numerous times it’s literally impossible. It’s not that things changed greatly. It’s that the expectations in this chat were unrealistic.
And a good backup plan to Storr, Oweh, is apparently not in play anymore. The portal business is truly insane. If this was 1986 you'd be blissfully ignorant right now and anxiously awaiting the Saturday Tatelines article. The portal business is truly insane. I agree with your various assessments, and have had concerns along these lines for a little while now. But the sheer enthusiasm of our posters on this site for the Maddox, Boswell, Storr, and Booth class (plus maybe more) is hard to ignore. I too find myself Orange-Intoxicated at times here.Any consideration we were ever going to get Raynaud was absurd for a variety of reasons, it has always been clear Storr will bail for a single extra cent (which is not yet appearing), and it has also been clear other relatively large fish were making Maddox far more central to their team and financial plans than we were. If we secure Boswell this weekend that's a big freakin' deal.
This really isn't that difficult to parse when you understand we and all of our competitors are working from a budget. We aren't going to get all of the desirable players because nobody is, nobody can afford that much.
I don't mind the posters going wild, I just hope our staff woke up to that pretty quickly.Illinois was never getting Boswell, Maddux, Storr and Booth even though many said we were. Life was a lot less stressfulIf this was 1986 you'd be blissfully ignorant right now and anxiously awaiting the Saturday Tatelines article.
It's been like that ever since I've followed recruiting ( a looong time). Fans, including myself, start ruminating over future lineups with guys we don't end up getting.I agree with your various assessments, and have had concerns along these lines for a little while now. Which can be kinda fun, lol.
Is this a good buckle up or a bad buckle up time?
The good news is that in NIL World, that dream foursome we're always salivating over is likely to have exactly one come to us, with the other three at three different schools, as opposed to the old days where Ohio State or Kentucky would get 3-4 of them and we get nothing. It's been like that ever since I've followed recruiting ( a looong time). Never pencil in anyone as a lock in recruiting. This was true before as well as after the Portal. And always take with a grain of salt what insiders hint at. Their sources generally feed them very optimistic info.
Baseball went from amateurism to Moneyball in 150 years, we're watching it happen in college basketball in 150 weeks. The value of a player decreases as the minutes available decrease from school’s NIL budget perspective. Think we are going to see more and more parity as schools and players maximize NIL. Schools for the most part are going to have trouble paying guys on the bench what another school is willing them pay them to play.
We’ve barely seen Amani play, he could be great and I want to keep him but idk how you can say with certainty he’s betterBooth is not better than Amani, come on. Can we be realistic about this please?
One million pesos??If Storr wants $1 mil because of the fixation of being able to claim “one million dollars” will he ever be happy taking anything less?
Boswell 6’6? What are you measuring wingspan lol?I am very happy with our current portal class assuming we get Boswell. The portal will stay open till May 1. Plus grad transfers don't have to go thru portal.
Davis 6'6 Soph
White 6'6 JR
Boswell 6'6" JR
PG Boswell Nico DGL
SG SF Luke, DGL and Davis
PF Ty, Tre
C Amani , Jaks
Of course if Marcus comes back then we will really be rocking. We could get Storr but my guess he goes NBA or highest offer NIL which will be Arkansas once Cal gets his act together.
JMO Don't really see any reason for anybody to transfer out unless they just feel they are not good enough to get playing time.
