It was also reported that he was willing to come off his redshirt when TSJ was suspended, and he likely guarded his rear end off on the scout team and made last years team better. He put in his two years, let him walk if he wants. We'll always have the UCLA memories.
I loved Sencire as player and am sad that he is leaving. However I am sure he dreams of NBA and the only way to improve is to play a lot. JMO - he should go to a mid major for 2 years where he can play 35 mpg like Marcus. Then come back to Illini as a portal senior and lead us to an NCAA championship (this is a secret plan so don't share with anybody else).

Booth isn't a rim protector to be clear, he's purely a stretch four - I see him filling the Guerrier role from this year more than anything - spot up three with some pick and pop/roll with some decent rebounding. He doesn't have a low post game, but does have athleticism to be in the dunker spot on Boswell drives, I think Kylan will make him more effective than he was at ND

Amani and anyone else had/has to understand, If Illinois didn't recruit another player at his position and Amani was out weeks because of his back. People would immediately wonder how we were not prepared with Amani already experiencing back issues causing him to miss multiple game. A back injury is not an injury I would want to have to hold out hope on every game. I think he has all the potential and seems like a great kid, hope it works out for everyone!
Agreed. Does the name Austin Hutcherson ring a bell?

Rim protector is anybody who blocks shots. On Flying Illini if you drove to hoop you had to watch out for Lowell, Kenny, Nick. Any of them could swat your shot into the stands.

I never want to speak bad about one of our players but the whole Sencire Harris transfer portal really irks me. It feels like he used Illinois to better his own game and become a stronger player. He used our athletic training staff to improve himself physically. Then, he turns around and bolts because of a difference in philosophy between Frazier and Underwood? If this was really about play time, then he should've transferred out after last season. It just feels like he used the program for his own gains when his motivations were to possibly bolt. He was a great contributor in practice and I don't want to diminish what he did to help this year's team out behind the scenes but it just feels like he used the program and then ran out of town. Is this really about an assistant coach leaving? Last time I looked, doesn't the head coach matter in this whole thing too? Do you come to a school to play for an assistant coach or do you come for more than that? Sencire has been in this program for two years now so I would hope this goes beyond Chester Frazier. It's frustrating to see the time that someone like Fletch put into this kid to find him leaving town over nonsense
I mean, when the difference in philosophy is whether or not you're playing, and the one coach he knows is vouching for him leaves, it just doesn't seem like nonsense. We can't expect to have it both ways where we expect a player to have infinite loyalty to us, when we are constantly looking for the next best thing at their expense. Same thing for many businesses- they get angry when "valued" employees "use them as a springboard for other jobs" leaving to get 40% pay raises, better upward mobility, and better benefits and call them disloyal, when at the same time they pay those employees significantly under their value, tells them the market dictates no pay increases or promotions, and tells them if they want to leave, there's the door, all while recording their 4th consecutive quarter of record profits.

Point is, if we're going all in every year on the portal (we are), then this is what happens. Can't expect a player to sit on the bench for 3-4 years on the odd chance they might see some significant minutes in their final year of eligibility. Sencire gave it one year more than most do nowadays, and it didn't happen. Makes no sense to be angry at him for not wasting another year or two.

Booth wants to be a 4. they are going to add a true center in the next few weeks
Do we know who the staff is targeting at center? I’ve seen some centers mentioned but I haven’t really seen anything definitive.

If Louisville in his top 2, seems to indicate biggest bag is at least a a pretty strong factor. And I don’t blame him. Likely not an nba player so next year might be the biggest payday he will get. Really good player but if it’s all about the bag, probably not the best fit. Think we will save our big $$ for a wing. I think we can find another 6’2ish shooter somewhere (hello, DGL).

But, he was going to supposedly stay until Chester left. I don't think he posts a mixtape of his practice highlights and puts an ILL in the subject line if he is going to leave. That's why I am making more of a point to say that it is complete idiocy for a player to leave over one of the assistant coaches leaving. Clearly, Chester had no loyalty to his players that he recruited and that are on the roster or else he would've stayed on in the same capacity. So why should Sencire have loyalty to Chester? Is his loyalty to Chester or is his loyalty to the Illinois basketball program? Clearly it's not to the Illinois basketball program. Brad Underwood has been the mastermind behind the Illini resurgence not Chester Frazier. Yes, Chester played a role just like our bench guys played their roles but he wasn't the end all be all. I wish some of our players would actually look at the big picture and look at what they had here this year in comparison to the likes of Jayden Epps and Skyy Clark. Would you rather play for a winning culture or play for a garbage culture?

I believe he was staying until Chester left. That's my point. It's a weird turn of events IMO. If Sencire has improved his game and his body, he would've gotten more PT next season regardless of who the Illini bring in. This isn't a PT issue. This is a nonsense issue
