I liked Amani a whole lot. I think if he stuck with us he would have been all big ten junior and senior year. He’s really good.

It’s just hard to see your hard won recruits flutter off after 1 year. Being recruited over has to suck.

For the record: I think Hansberry will have a better career than Booth. I would have preferred to keep him and fill position elsewhere.

Best of luck to him 🫡

Not at the rumored price ... And personally I think Bamba is a role player ...

If he's your best player ... You end up like Nova last year ... At home on the couch ...
Yeah he was super hyped up last offseason and then played pretty mediocre

I'm a huge Amani fan and I agree with you. He has the potential of being a very good college player with more development. I'll have to cheer him elsewhere sadly.

I do feel that NIL/transfer era puts more emphasis on free agency over player development but it is the landscape we're living in so what can we do but hope our coaching stuff knows what they're doing.

I want to submit my humble apologies to Rob (and Aaron) Jordan and Malcolm and his dad for my poor memory and incorrect info. I met Rob and talked with him a few times at Scotty’s Brewhouse before games as he sat at the corner of the bar, with his laptop on the bar top, working. He was such a nice and friendly guy to us. I can’t believe I forgot his name. Yesterday was a rough day. Sorry, all.
I have many fond memories of people's great stories about the Jordan family that I read on here! Aaron (and Malcom!) deserved to be on much better teams. It's definitely sad how many Illini players that I remember QUITE fondly never got to play under the bright lights of the Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight between 2006 and 2023...

I think within 5 years we get to a more regimented “contracts” for NIL, like you’d get this much per year for 3 years and this much when you finish the contract, something like that.

Right now it’s functioning as if NBA free agency had only single year contract guarantees with no severance penalty and no one had to report salaries. And no salary caps for teams.

Like… it’s ludicrous right now. It won’t always be this nuts.

Saw Amani in his first game back being healthy @ tOSU and he looked really promising. Sad to see him go. Looks like we’ll have 9 new players next year. Not ideal, no matter how talented.

What's everyone's take on targeting guys that have multiple years left? Not exclusively at the cost of better players, but all other things being close to equal, I'd assume the program would prefer to bring those in with more than one year of eligibility? By and large it looks like that is what's happening, I'm just curious how much that plays into the targets.

I know this isn’t the right thread for this, but anyone know what Aaron Jordan is doing nowadays. Malcolm and AJ were two of my favorites.
