The car I drove while at home in high school and when home from UI was my great aunt's 1972 Buick Skylark. A 350 cu inch V-8. A beast and it was no muscle car. I recall flooring it into a headwind on an entrance ramp to I-74 once to test its acceleration. The aerodynamics were so poor that it felt as if it were going to become airborne. Eight miles to the gallon city, 14 highway if I was lucky. AM radio with an FM converter. Massive chrome bumpers. Weighed 3600 lbs. Good times.

Am fully aware that this belongs in a separate cheese/car thread.

So... where do we stand with Storr... er... Maddox?
My high school car was my mom's 1984 Ford LTD. The Blue Beast was an absolute unit. It survived everything that a chatGPT could conceive of, including a Blues Brothers style flight at high speed into a corn field after an egging incident. Then my brother drove into a ditch in southern IL in his high school years and put the steering column into the engine block.
Anyway, I'm bummed that Coach Frazier, Amani and Sencire are gone. There was a love of playing defense in all 3 that I don't think you can coach. It's innate.
But I trust what Brad is doing in terms of roster construction for this age of college basketball,
Just like I trust Ford after somehow building a sedan that outperformed the M1 Sherman.
It's not necessarily what you think you want, it's definitely not sexy, but it is a beast and I have faith it's gonna get us where we need to go.
Keep rolling.

We felt good after the visit …

I think Xavier has always kind of been the leader … And I’ve said that for a while …

Especially because Claude was going into the portal originally … Sean has really pushed the narrative that all 4 of McKnight, Claude, Maddox and Conwell can play together … And all get their numbers and win at an elite level … And I think those 4 have really believed him …
What makes Sean better than Brad at selling? It would seem that you think he's better at closing a kid

I don't begrudge a player for wanting to better himself. The NIL and portal has certainly changed college basketball. It is extremely difficult for me to get to know the players from year to year. I simply do not have the time to devote a lot of time in the off season. I can only watch a handful of games. Most of what I learn is on this site and checking the boxscores.

It is a little frustrating when the mentality is to simply leave the team instead of wanting to show the coaching staff that they are the better option instead of the incoming transfer. It was only small school high school but I admired my son when he was a senior. He went out and found enough runners to bump himself down on the cross country depth chart. His goal was to get the team back to state even if he didn't participate. In his case, There were enough injuries that he ended up back on varsity and ran in the state meet.

Xavier is not some poverty program …

Steele had them off the tracks for sure … He’s Groce’s brother for those who don’t know … I could’ve told you that Xavier was gonna fall off …

Sean had them in sweet 16 his first year … He put Colby Jones in the NBA … Turned Souley Boum into an elite college player …

Then this year lost 2 starters in August … And had to bring in 11 new guys … It was going to be a down year … But in that down year McKnight, Claude, and Olivari really, really produced … Great sell for guards …

HOWEVER - I agree - losing a kid like Maddox to Xavier … IMO is unacceptable … Brad said he was his top guard target … Losing a kid that’s your top guard target to Xavier when they already have 2 guards better than him and if they get Conwell I’d say he’s on Maddox level … So 3 guards better than or equal to him ?? That just can’t happen …
I understand the Xavier is not a poverty school or anything.

There's just a difference between losing a transfer guard who's from Illinois to a program like Baylor and a program like Xavier.

Brad does not have a great track record with guards. If Boswell wasn’t from Champaign you’d have to question if he even would be an Illini. Likely not. Brad needs to figure out how to change this. The only glaring opportunity Brad has.
