I'm sorry if this is old news, but I first read it this morning. Our transfer class is ranked #2 in the country by 247 sports.

You should have a problem with it. It's bad for business giving kids all the power that they want. And how do you force a women's team to take a player when they are building their own culture and need pieces that are fits for them. Again, bad business.
But you want us to hire a coach for the recruits they have a relationship with that they can bring in? Or find a job for a recruit's parent in Champaign so they can be closer to their son playing here or find way for a recruit to transfer here and not have to take summer school classes so they can academically qualify?

We've done all of those things as have most of the top programs in the country - the players have all the power especially now in the new NIL era - it's free agency beyond what any professional sports league has - every player is a free agent every year if they choose to be

You can choose to be righteously indignant at such a request from a player, but if you can make them happy to come to your school it doesn't mean you still can't build a culture the right way with EDG and continue that culture even with roster turnover. I'd be much more concerned if we weren't getting the right players with the right character and mindset (e.g. Matthew Mayer) than I would be with what strings we need to pull to get them here (e.g. TSJ) that are perfectly within the rules. Maybe Storr wasn't the right EDG - in which case I'm glad we moved on, but it's not because of the ask for his girlfriend

This has gotten out there a bit...but it got the point where Storr asked for a spot for his girlfriend on the woman's team. That was the main breaking point to me. Brad wasn't going to put Shauna in that position
I wonder if Patrick McCaffrey has considered this route? Girfriend Caitlin won't sign with the WNBA unless Patrick is guaranteed a spot in the NBA. ;)

Maddox "winning is very important to me... That's why I'm going to a team that was .500 and in the NIT last year rather than a team that won the Big 10 tourney and was in the Elite 8 finishing top 6 in the country."

Seems like a bright kid...
Just be honest and tell us you wanted the 💰
Come on now. Obviously money was likely the most important factor, but Sean can really coach, and Xavier is a great spot for him if he wants to win as well.

I don't like cherry picking one season as evidence that Xavier is a place to collect a paycheck instead of winning. Considering they lost players right before the season last year, Sean did a pretty darn good job. Sean will have them near the top of the Big East next year, as well as in contention for at least the second weekend of the tourney.

David Jones at Memphis is not currently in the portal, is considering the NBA, and would have major elite suitors if he did transfer.

But he’s from the Dominican Republic like OA and played for TA at DePaul his freshman year, so you’d think we’d at least be part of the discussion.

And he was a better and more valuable player than Storr last year, I’d wager 247 would make him the new #1 portal guy.

I assume we’re about to be flooded with insider suggestions that we’re in good shape with him.
And its not like Illinois is starting from scratch with David Jones. We were heavily involved with his initial recruitment out of high School. Remember this:
DePaul’s 2021 recruiting class got a boost on Monday when four-star recruit David Jones verbally committed to the Blue Demons.
"The Blue Demons were a late addition to Jones’ final list, with the University of Illinois previously being the leading candidate for his signature. But DePaul was able to swoop in right at the end to land Jones."

My question is who in the portal (or remaining to enter the portal) is a better fit for TSJs replacement than Storr?
David Jones is rumored to be portaling if he doesn't go pro and is a stud. Also some rumors of Desmond Claude.

There's word of bigger names possibly entering as the portal goes on but some other guys that I think would be good fits.

Aidan Mahaney, Max Shulga, Roddy Gayle, Johnell Davis, Rylan Griffen, Ryan Conwell, BJ Freeman, Jalen Blackmon, and Ortega Oweh.

If Domask got a waiver I think one of Mahaney, Shulga, or Blackmon would fit real nice beside him and Boswell(though you could argue they could use more size and athleticism defensively).

Also, I think he goes pro but Dillon Jones from Weber State is an absolute monster.

Im hoping this isnt another Tyger Campbell pipe dream. Jones hasnt even declared he's transferring... we need quite a few stars to align to get this kid.

And he already works for the Pacers. Probably not a small factor in her deciding to eschew her final year of eligibility.
Why wouldn't she go pro now? There was literally no reason for her to stay in college no matter what team drafted her. She was the #1 pick, already does national TV commercials with State Farm and others, showed up for a bit on SNL... her stock could not possibly get higher from staying in college another year.

Plus, I'm pretty confident she's smart and independent enough not to make decisions based on a boyfriend's (much less visible) job.

I'd guess Connor's job had negligible impact on her decision.

With the NIL and the atmosphere of college basketball, is it truly worth it to red shirt anyone?
I don't know if school has say in decision of who redshirts. But if I was coach in NIL portal age I would not allow anybody to redshirt unless they commit to not transferring the next year.
