Not sure if we’ve got interest, but Wesley Cardet from Chicago State is in the portal.

My recollection was Chicago State was worst progam in D1. But last year t
hey were not bad 13-19. Beat NW. Played Loyola, Wisconsin, Depaul, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State. Not a bad schedule for an independent.

Any background on why the #60 recruit in his class signed with Samford and wound up at Chicago State?
Was wondering the same. David Jones was floated here yesterday, and Cardet seems like he'd be in the same vein but maybe a step down? But that's only an initial look - hoping for someone more in the know that can fill in the blanks.

He went to Samford first.

....It definitely helped that my uncle (Gerald Gillion) is there as an assistant coach. I know that he’ll really take care of me and make sure my game continues to grow. A lot of people are probably a little shocked that I ended up picking Samford over the other schools on my list like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Illinois, Florida, Kansas State, USC, Miami and others. For me, it’s all about the fit and the opportunity. What the NCAA tournament showed everybody was that the mid major schools have really caught up with the Power 5 schools....

I never thought the day would come where there would be genuine excitement at the idea of landing a Chicago State transfer, but these are strange times.
I'd be concerned about him putting up a lot of points against a lot of bad teams (+Northwestern) and his production falling off against good competition.

IMO if we get to choose I'd rather have Jones.

I'm not super excited about Cardet. His above average offensive metrics are negated by his below average defensive metrics.

He brings some size and scoring, at least.

Cardet seems like another "high ceiling" guy. If we got him and considering we have Booth, Boswell, and White (all "high ceiling" guys), if 2 of the 4 panned out we could be really good. I'm alright with that approach as long as they don't bring Skyy Clark level baggage.

We have nice mix
Tre and Kylan from NCAA perennials USC and AZ, will be JR
Carey from ND - ACC , will be Soph
Davis from mid major - Mercer will be Soph

Hopefully they will stay till graduation. Tre worries me since he has already transferred twice. Kylan seems most mature. Bided his time at AZ and had good reason to transfer.

Re: Cardet — He followed his uncle to Samford and then Chicago State. His uncle recently left his head coaching job at Chicago state and is now an assistant at LIU. Wonder if Wes will follow him again or look at larger programs

Totally missed this so sorry for repeating …

But I’ve heard it’s all about $$$ this time around for Cardet …
