I'm surprised how little Coleman's tweet has been talked about this morning and no insider comments on it, or are we all just too conditioned to his trolling?

I thought I kind of addressed the Coleman situation last night before his tweet … 🤷🏻‍♂️

Knee isn’t coming back like they thought … Can a 60-70% Coleman do enough to get drafted …

Rod says not entering the portal … Coleman’s never brought it up and it’s not on the table …

In general I feel like we should get at least one surefire sniper in our starting lineup, right? Seems like we currently have and are targeting a lot of capable but not great shooters (assuming Goode and Davis off the bench)
I'm baffled by everyone's assumption that Luke Goode will not be a starter next year. If healthy, given his 3 point shooting prowess, great teammate chemistry with 4 years experience in the program knowing Brad's systems inside out along with his important role this year from near the end of the Big Ten season on, I will go on record as saying that I will bet my beach house that he is in the starting line-up for the first game no matter who is added to the roster. But given that OA will soon join the staff, I will hedge my bet a bit as to WHICH beach house is the subject of this bet:

That is the best inside news you could share. Coleman is an Illini, I would hate to see him play at another school. NBA or overseas I totally get, but I think we would pay him great NIL just because of his charter and what he means to the UofI

Insight appreciated! I'm usually pretty good at skimming for you and others worth listening to, must have missed that over the last couple days. I'm also not the most active here in general. Thanks for being willing to re-address it!

P5 football and basketball HC jobs were always difficult but with portal and NIL there is no dead period and HC has to act like salary cap specialist/pro GM as well. I think a lot more P5 old timers like McCaffrey, Izzo, Barnes, Hamilton will retire. Only Barnes has his team in top 15.

TSJ's per possession metrics were very good before he came here (on respectable usage and minutes). He got even better in his last year here, but he didn't have nearly as far to go to be 1st team B1G as the players being discussed lately. Domask was about the same statistically here as he was the year prior, though that likely reflects some improvement due to the bump in level of competition.

So yes, there was some development there, but they were already very well proven. I hope we can bring in guys as proven as they were, or else we're counting on even more magic (either in player development or finding more talent than there appeared to be)

Junior year TSJ was quite a long way from being 1st team All-Big Ten.

We're also seemingly targeting younger players. It is not unreasonable to expect more development in 18 and 19 year olds than it is 21 and 22 year olds.

Brad Underwood and Illinois are all-in on a new era

When Illinois alum Chester Frazier joined the Illinois coaching staff in 2021, the move was an oasis for a fanbase thirstier than an OnlyFans convention.

...
And that brings us to today’s topic.

Chester Frazier is not a bad basketball coach.

Chester Frazier is not disloyal.

Chester Frazier left the Illinois basketball program better than he found it.

But Chester Frazier’s strengths lie in contradiction with CEO Underwood’s vision for the roster.

Prep recruiting is a secondary endeavor.

Of course it still matters. Having a pipeline of talented freshmen is still a central tenet of roster construction. That hasn’t changed despite what hand-wringers and yap-runners on social media platforms say. But it has become even with or even secondary to transfer portal recruiting.

The one-and-done straight line to championship basketball is a relic. In the Sweet 16 this year, there were four freshman starters.

Anyway, the point is that power conference role players and mid-major producers often make their biggest collegiate impact at their second (or third) school. They’re like young free agent second-round picks getting their first long-term deals after outperforming expectations at their first stop.

Sounds like the MLT “serviceable big” option.
Pretty perfect for our needs assuming a reasonable price.

Does the dirty work, rebounds at both ends, all his shots are putbacks and dunks at the rim, and he'll keep Booth, Morez, Hawkins, whoever from getting overexposed at the 5.

Played at Dodge City (KS) C.C., where BU coached before he was born

I like Pringle, but he was suspended twice during the season for conduct detrimental to the team and his FT% is only 56%. I'd prefer Sam Walters.
you'd need to have MUCH better stats, if you've got a history of being a bad teammate, for me to have any interest.

The idea is it leaves cap space to make the big score on the perimeter.

I would MUCH rather have Boogie Fland or David Jones and Pringle as opposed to, say, Desmond Claude and Brandon Garrison or Zvonimir Ivisic
