The days of the recruiting ace asst coach are over, whether H.S. or portal. NIL trumps that. Being well-connected is still important, but even more-so the ability to scout the Domasks and other young transfers and extrapolate their potential and fit on your yearly brand new team. Also important is a sort of 'Iron chef' talent of 'here's 6 new ingredients, you have one month to create a tasty dish' that beats the competition... in essence, a creative and imaginative basketball mind. Was Chester that? It sounds like he maybe was on the defensive end.
Great characterization of the situation, I think. It is SO different all of the sudden.

Ehhhh, I don't think the record would reflect that.
It does. I know how *I* felt about those transfers — I was over the moon about TJ, generally excited about Mayer — but you can go back and check the transfer rankings on 247. Mayer #10, TJ #14. Splitting hairs I know, but if you value the rankings, one was higher. Mayer was a massive get, it just felt like more of a luxury since it came a month after TJ. The hype for that season was in large part due to “two top 15 transfers,” whereas people didn’t say the same leading into this year b/c our transfers didn’t have the same notoriety.

Sure, but getting TSJ and Hawkins out of the draft were the two big NIL scores last year.

The point I'm trying to refute is that TSJ was the equivalent of someone like Tre White or Desmond Claude in terms of hype and expectations, an under-the-radar mystery project type. That isn't true at all, especially since he was a Chicago kid we'd missed on in recruiting. A healthy TSJ was always a projected star (though he eventually blew up bigger than anyone could have predicted).

Boswell is probably a decent comparison. Complete player, loud tools, cool local story, it's all there, can he bring it together consistently?

I’d love Humrichous. So much Riley Minix to his game
There is some stylistic similarity there, as well as an appearance similarity (they both make Marcus Domask look like George Hamilton).

But Minix was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more productive.

I like Humrichous' game, but between Tre White, Jake Davis and Luke Goode we kind of already have a lot of similar guys. More shooting is nice, but I'd like it in the form of a true guard which Humrichous isn't.

Id take humrichous over pringle
Different spots. Humrichous isn't a center whatsoever.

I get pringle is much more of a center/PNR guy, but 247 has pringle and humrichous both at 6'9. Were gonna get cooked again if our plan at C is a PNR undersized tweener

Idk… I’d rather have the guy who rebounds, protects the rim, and was one of the 5 best players on a final 4 team at the 5, than the guy who shoots 3’s. 6.5 rebounds a game per 40 minutes doesn’t really do it for me.
Agreed Humrichous is not enticing to me at all. He’s a much less athletic version of Coleman that lacks the ball handling and passing ability

Why would they take Booth and vise versa if Coleman was coming back. I hope so just doesn't seem realistic
I wondered about that too. I resolved it with either BU thought Coleman was definitely going pro, or he just wants to keep waves of guys coming at you who are rested when the other team is sucking wind. Also, both are reasonably affordable and do not break the NIL budget.
