My stats prof at UI was something else. First thing he said is he didn't understand why this wasn't a 5 credit hour course (something no student EVER wants to hear). Then he kept talking about what "he" was going to do and what "he" would show us (and he wasn't talking about himself). I figured he was talking about one of the TAs. It took me about an hour to realize he was talking about the program (SAS). This guy had been so involved with this program he had given it a gender. He never turned down a question, though, I'll give him that. I mean, how could someone turn down this charming face, anyway? You can't see it, but it is pretty charming...

Lol...I stopped short of the rest of the story....which was that it was a 5 credit hour class....and smoked my GPA!!

Imagine what proven college legends like Magic Johson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan would be worth in NIL back in 1979 and early 1980's. Seeing what figures are being thrown out to players that haven't yet proven themselves at this level makes you think that they are following the path of NBA doing similiar stuff.

A wise GM type coach is going to excel, those just throwing money are going to be average at best.
Reparations?

Fred Gottheil was the econ guru when I was there. His Econ 101 class filled up Foellinger.
Looks like Prof. Gottheil passed away in 2016. I thought his lectures were about as interesting as possible for the subject matter, but not interesting enough to convince me to attend at 8am on a regular basis. When my chair in Foellinger Hall broke and literally collapsed to the floor as I was sitting there half-asleep, I took that as a sign that I should probably just stay in bed.

Fred was a truly wonderful human being as well. Great family all around.

Damascus was a booty ball outlier, he could scoop, hit the fade away, use the backboard cue ball shot, hit the three, and the behind the backboard jumper. Don’t think you will find another booty baller with those multiple skills.

But other than those things what else could he do?

I know this is late, but also

We had our PG

Me too - can still see Eddie's sweet baseline jumper, followed by absolute pandemonium..🥳

The Saturday lost to Ohio State was such an incredible letdown. I remember that Ohio State team. Lots of future pros (Herb Williams, Kellogg, Ransey, G. Waiters, and, deep on the OSU bench, a future NFL QB named Art Schlichter).
Schlichter lost $150,000 on that game........

Ah yes, and the composition class, where the professor walked in with his cup of tea and saucer, and made the announcement that no one could speak until he finishes his tea.
