People can play nice all they want, the moment you transfer to a hated rival like Indiana, you're no longer an Illini for life... 0 rooting for the kid now... except for after school and in life in general lol.

Do we know what other visit Ben took?

I know that things take longer than us fans want and there is always movement behind the scenes that we can't see, but I am a little underwhelmed today. Ben is awesome and he was one of the ones I wanted. I guess I got too excited with all the ' hold on to your butts" stuff.

I still have faith in the staff, I was thinking some bigger names would be available by this time.

He's been an Indiana fan his whole life. He only went to Illinois bc Indiana didn’t recruit him. Let's not act like he has some undying loyalty to Illinois. He's playing a similar role on a rival. He's a good kid but I'm not wishing success on my rivals

4 and 5 definitely matter when the other team has a post oriented 5. For CH, it's probably a PITA to be that defender so he wants to play with Dain. Some players don't want to be that post defender when you want them to be.
The terms 4 and 5 (or 1, 2 or 3) no longer have set meaning. Coleman was the biggest player on the floor for us for a majority of minutes. Does that make him a 5? Or does the fact that he shot 3s make him a 3? Or does being 6’10” but skinny mean he is a 4? These terms have no meaning.

What matters is the combination of skills a player has—and every player is unique. Defensively, you try to put five players on the floor that collectively can combine their respective skill sets and a defensive scheme to stop the opponent’s five players from scoring. And you may choose to play five players who do not give you your best defense if those five create a bigger offensive advantage than their defensive deficit.

Sorry if it’s been asked and answered, how many years does Humrichous have? I know he’s listed as a senior, but was he in school for the Covid year? Or is he one and done no matter what?

I am Mr. Appreciation for people that have been a part of our program, and the same is true for Goode, and I have no doubt there were push as well as pull factors here, but this sucks!

The problem isn't that this is some horrible betrayal, the problem is that given the current state of college basketball, it isn't.

This is unnatural and bad.
How is a grad transfer choosing one of the top MBA programs in the country where his entire family are alum… unnatural?

What would be unnatural is him not choosing a school in his best interest simply because of a sports rivalry, and a rivalry that hasn’t been very prevalent for most of his lifetime.

People just seem to put on their orange tinted glasses and forget these are KIDS trying to figure out their future and making decisions they think are best for said future. Congrats to Luke for getting his degree at UIUC, thank you for 3 years of being an EDG and CONGRATS for getting into one of the top MBA programs in the country, no matter who it is.

He got a degree in 3 years while playing Division one BBall?
Yes.

Just google the press coverage of his IU commitment. All refer to him as a Grad Transfer.

I see all these regurgitation gifs re Goode's commitment to Indiana. What's truly sickening to me is the downright small spiritedness and lack of generosity to a young man who:
1. Committed to UI out of high school
2. Stuck out 3 years here
3. GOT HIS DEGREE IN 3 YEARS
4. Is being recruited over (not a BU criticism)
5. Has the opportunity to both get a graduate degree that furthers his academic goals and play for the team he no doubt dreamed of playing for growing up.

GO LUKE!

It's going to suck seeing Goode play for that loathed rival but I do wish him success in every game he plays except for against our beloved Illini

It’s a big thing when any talented player from the State of Indiana has the courage to cross the Western border and enter the lands of a bitter IU rival. Goode was such a player.

He topped off his game as far as it was going to develop with the Beloved. There is a special feeling when you get to play for your home State’s signature program. Now he gets to have that experience for himself.

Let’s hope that other talented players from Indiana follow his lead in the future and find their way into the true heart of roundball that exists across the border to the West.

Players shouldn't play for both sides of a college sports rivalry.

The norm should be players using their entire eligibility at one school, as is the (also dissipating) norm for students. That connection, that parallel, is unique to college sports and is what makes a laughably inferior minor league competition a beloved (and lucrative) cultural touchstone.

This sport will collapse if this is where its going. And that's bad for everybody.

I hope we get a home game against ClownPantsU this season. I wanna see Luke get a deafening, standing ovation during introductions. After that, he's dead to me for 40 minutes, and then I look forward to rooting for him in life. Obviously he will have many opportunities, I wonder if coaching is something that interests him. He could be pretty good at it.

You’ve had some bad takes, but this isn’t just bad it’s unbelievably selfish. Especially if we consider the fact that he already got his degree from this school.

Grad transfers have been a thing forever, quit whining

Had to disappoint him that IU didn't recruit him out of HS, so he came here and was an exemplar student and member of the Illini and got his degree in 3 years. When he saw that his playing time probably would be limited going forward, he didn't complain or become a distraction, but instead, found the next best path for himself and his family which ultimately opened a scholarship spot that will surely benefit the Illini. So good for him.
Here's hoping he has a super BIG season against everyone but us. I L L to you Luke.
