On the final day of the B1G conference season, Goode will drain a buzzer beater 3 to beat whatever team is competing for the regular season championship with us (maybe USC?), clinching the title for the Illinois. The prophecy has spoken.
What if that buzzer beater is against us, to deny us a championship? I, for one, would not be applauding. And if he missed that shot, I'm guessing he would not return an 'ILL'

But in this current iteration of college basketball, it's not about the teams for these guys. They've gotta maximize their earnings within a 4-year time period. Players that don't transfer at some point will be the outliers.

Goode to Indiana is, to a much lesser degree, like Albert Pujols going to the Angels. Years later, all will be forgotten and only the fondness will remain. But, Puljols surrendered his “Stan Musial” status and will not occupy the same rarified air as The Man, Gibby, Lou, Red and Ozzie. Likewise, we’ll remember Luke fondly, but he won’t reach Ayo, Kofi, Trent, DaMonte or Coleman status.
Lou as in Brock? Didn't the Cubs trade him to the Cardinals for right handed pitcher Ernie Broglio? I am thinking they saw Lou Brock as an error prone center fielder? The red birds moved him to left field? Something like that.

For those getting all up in arms over the reactions of the news of Goode to Indiana, take a step back. I mean, how do you expect Illinois fans on a (the best) Illinois message board to react to someone who played for Illinois to transfer to Indiana--a historic program rival? It isn't that big of a deal. Get off your soap boxes and realize where your at, and this is coming from someone who types from atop of theirs every time they log into Loyalty.

Let's talk more about the young man who just came to the Fighting Illini and less about the one who left, yeah?

does he have a step back fade away mid-range game? Passing? Talk trash? Have we truly landed the ever illusive less athletic Larry Bird.
I typically get annoyed by that comment when there is a player comparison. But this might be appropriate in this case.

Who cares? This was the norm if not worse back in the day. Self has always known and turned a cheak, thus him on Fbi wiretaps. Nada nothing from NCAA. Who cares!

........My first visit was to Illinois University," Villanueva said. "I loved it, loved it off the bat. First of all, I'm 17 years old, they picking me up in a private jet. I ain't never been in a private jet in my life... So I get on campus, they got five girls with Charlie's Angels shirts on them following me wherever I go.".....

Bill Self is the GOAT. Rick Pitino has nothing on him! This explains why Julian Wright and Sherron Collins never gave Weber the time of day.

Players shouldn't play for both sides of a college sports rivalry.

The norm should be players using their entire eligibility at one school, as is the (also dissipating) norm for students. That connection, that parallel, is unique to college sports and is what makes a laughably inferior minor league competition a beloved (and lucrative) cultural touchstone.

This sport will collapse if this is where it’s going. And that's bad for everybody.
I quietly disagree with a vast majority of things Gritty writes. It’s not personal. We are just on two ends of the spectrum in terms of the transfer portal and college athletics and that’s ok.

On this point, I agree mostly. I don’t care if you use all your eligibility at a single school. I don’t even actually care if you want to transfer to a rival. But you lose the right to call yourself a ____ for life when you transfer to a rival. You can’t be an Illini for Life and transfer to Indiana or Iowa or Missouri.

That’s not me being selfish. That’s reality. I have a bachelors from Tennessee and a MBA from Illinois. I never considered getting my MBA from Alabama, Florida, Georgia or Kentucky. It wouldn’t have mattered how good their MBA programs were. I DETEST all of those schools on a molecular level.

I say all that but none of it is hate towards Luke. He’s doing what’s best for him and I love that for him. As a person. Wish him nothing but the best at Indiana and in life.
