We're going to be bad this year aren't we? All this talk about the money we have and all the guys we passed up...

There's 4 days left for players to enter the portal and the only guy we have some form of "in" on is a center who averaged like 4 points a game last year.

We have 3 starter level players in Boswell, Rodgers, and Humrichous, neither of which are probably good enough to be a primary scorer on a good team.

Our only returner of significance is Ty Rodgers, a guy who is effectively a 6'6" center who averaged 6 points last year.

At what point do we panic a little bit? Brad's supposedly "cooking" but to what extent lol...
There are plenty of guys that put their name in the draft and also the portal. There won’t be much movement on those guys until they get the draft feedback so portal is far from being over even with the May 1 deadline coming up. I bet next week sees more people hit the portal than any one day so far too.

People saying Goode is no longer an Illini for life are pathetic. He chose us out of high school, spent 3 years here getting a degree, and we recruited over him (which is okay, it happens and we want to win), so he decides to transfer to the place his ENTIRE FAMILY went to school. Get over yourselves, he’s a great kid that gave 3 solid years to our program.
This is fair. I (still) love Luke, but I also don’t blame any Illini fans with some distaste for the commitment post … it kind of came across like he would have always preferred to be in Bloomington but Illinois was a cold, hard logical choice. Fine if true, but … you’re going to lose the hearts of Illini Nation if you give off that vibe. From middle school to college, Illinois and Indiana do not and shouldn’t mix for hoops.

It will be hard for me to say that Goode was an Illini for life, when he basically had 1 full season, played okay, and then left for an IDENTICAL ROLE at one of our biggest in conference rivals. Luke Goode is a guy who played for Illinois and transferred to Indiana and played there. It’ll be hard for me to think otherwise

We made it 4 hours longer than I thought. Congratulations, everyone!

How do you know who we have “ins” with? They have 4 days to enter the portal. Doesn’t mean they have to sign within 4 days, right? I mean it’s only 4 days, so if that’s your measuring stick, would just wait 4 days and then see if your mind changes.

How? Every player graduate or not has to enter the portal within the next 4 days and we have no "in" on any current players of significance. In previous years graduate players could enter later. For example last year by this point:

1. Domask had already committed over 2 weeks ago (April 10th)
2. Guerrier had already committed 2 days ago (April 24th)
3. Harmon had already committed over 2 weeks ago (April 10th)
And in 2022:

TSJ committed on April 29th
Mayer committed on May 27th

Still time for Brad and staff to cook

The key to the whole operation was TJ and CH coming back. Without those two coming back last year, we would have been in the same situation as we are right now.

I see a lot of Christmas wish list pipedreams being thrown around, but no realistic options of a high level, bonafide, wing scorer or a legitimate 5.

There's still time, so there's no need for panic, but wondering where the answers are going to come from.

100% devils advocate here, but “the program” and EDG well you could argue that with Goode IU has almost as many EDG as we do.

I trust Brad, but it’s silly to extrapolate that IU is paying $$$ to be like us and not think, with their portal haul they might be close.

Yeah, we keep talking about how many guys we're going to sign, and then turning around and worrying about how we can possibly play them all.

Everyone knows in basketball a dollar is worth way more than four quarters.

If zeroing out the budget to land David Jones (I can't even imagine Holmes) is what it takes to get the deal done, it's worth leaving 2, shoot maybe even 3 scholly's empty. As a matter of fact that is probably the optimal distribution of resources. 13 scholarships makes less and less sense in this environment, that may not last long.
I agree with this so much. Quality over quantity. Much rather have one stud than three more guys who may or may not play at all.

Take a deep breath. There is a plan in place.
