I alluded to this last night, but keep your eyes on Big Z’s brother.

Legit 7-footer who’s a lob threat and 40% 3-point shooter. He was playing in Serbia while Brad was there, and he and Tyler Underwood followed each other on instagram within the past few days…

Also keep an eye on Ali with i coming back. She entered the portal about four years ago and recently sent me a Facebook request.

The stat came from that video, starting at about the 3 minute mark.

The examples they play are a bunch of him shooting a 3 off of a pin down, and a couple that just aren't even screens at all. But the stat suggests he's Chris Paul or something. He's a capable and heads-up player in the flow of an offense, but no more than that.

That Youtube account does an amazing job cutting clips of the nine trillion guys in the portal and has been an invaluable resource, but I pretty much just ignore the statistical headers which feature weird methodological choices and often don't match the clips.

Anyway, I am caught between liking Humrichous and the fit with what we want to do, and finding the inevitable comparisons with Domask and expectations that he's going to be a star offensive centerpiece to be wildly off base.

We're a long way from where we want to be at the moment.
Aren't the stats coming from something very reputable - T-rank or Synergy?

Good rebounder. 3 pt % has improved every year, though overall FG% is a little low (probably because he took a fair number of 3pt shots). How is his defense? Feels like we need a good defensive stopper or two.
FG% is not a good stat to look at. Even splitting it out into 2pt%, 3pt% and FT% doesn't tell you how often a player gets to the line or what a realistic shot selection for them might be. TS% is better, but even that doesn't account for things like piling up fouls on the other team, how likely each type of missed shot will be rebounded by their own team, or what could happen if you change their shot mix etc.

But Boswell is the lead guard.

Ty Rodgers' position is "Ty Rodgers". He's unique. Call him a "wing" I guess.

Check the record. It was the insiders who were marking Domask as a bench player when he committed, and me disagreeing.

What gets coded as "positivity" around here isn't actual faith in anyone in the program, it's the belief that some magical amazing thing is about to arrive, and that the special boys and girls who say their prayers and eat their vegetables will be able to read the tea leaves of the secret magic working in the background. It's exhausting.

Challenge accepted... You sure you were 100% on the Domask train?

If you are exhausted, take a break. It's basketball, It's not that serious.

IMO 3 point shot is likely a pipe dream, he really just needs a reliable mid range jumper. He can get by his man regularly but then his only option is to take it all the way to the rim. Defenses know that and help, which is why his conversion at the rim is challenged. If he can hit an elbow jumper and floater it will expand his minutes immensely.
Until Ty even attempts a mid range jumper for that to expect that become reliable is also very iffy. I would hope that Ty can get where he is finishing at the rim with much more efficiently. He missed far to many short bunnies and lay ups. I hope we can add more guys to challenge not only Ty but others for starters minutes. That will mean we are deep and skilled and that is a good thing.

I truly have zero interest in making the conversation about me, I just want to talk about sports. You're dead on, it's not that serious.

My point is simply that inflated expectations around what was then still to come in that year's portal led many "optimistic" posters to fail to recognize how significant and core of an addition Domask was. We let our analysis get led astray too often by that sort of thing around here.

Maybe I'm making a similar mistake right now with Humrichous, but I don't think I am. I think if he's as central a cog in our offense as Domask was last year, we're not a very good team.

I don't think anyone one said a first team all Valley player is a bench guy. Hell most of the all Valley team from a couple years ago started in the B10 last year. I'll take those guys every year in orange n blue.

There may not be one person that fills Domask's role. It may be a couple of guys. I have studied this guy pretty good and this is what I think. Depending on the matchup that he is in, he could go off pretty quick. I think he gives the Illini another double digit scorer who the defense has to respect. In my book he starts!

Let’s not rule out Ty Rodgers starting at that 2… I imagine he’s gonna work his butt off this summer and be really really good. Also, I could be wrong but I feel like we have a level of rose-colored glasses for transfers- like a new shiny toy… like if Ty was a dude we’d played against during the season and he was considering transferring I’m sure we’d be salivating over the thought of picking him up.

Is there any chance that for the past 2 summers, Ty has thought, or been told, don't worry about being able to shoot. Don't even practice it. And definitely don't work with any of our professional coaches on improving.

Why would you imagine this summer he will suddenly become "really really good" when he has not shown progress before? Or do you mean, he'll get really really good at the things he can do, and it's okay if shooting isn't one of them?

I thought his family and Brad don’t get along at all after what went down with his brother

baller but hes too small for the big 10
Dude, he was playing in the SEC which has put as many or more guys in the NBA than the B10! He was a stud freshman, solid and strong. He is Plummer and more. I doubt we could get him but I'd love to. Especailly if we could get a big rim protector to back our guys up.

Hubbard is a stud but do we want an undersized 2 guard at 5”10? Christie can plug in and play the 3 right away…

Boswell
Hubbard
Christie
Himrichous
Transfer 5

Like that, but would rather have a bigger backcourt…

That doesn’t refute that he still liked Domask and has the screen shots that show it.

It just shows he wanted to role the dice with RJ (a known and struggling player that possibly could have been fixed) for two years over the unknown of Domask for one.

Though, for Domask being unknown Gritty almost, to a T, called how he would perform. (Just not at the All B1G level)
