You're going to see it more often as players realize it's just better business to enter the portal and get out a bit more from your current team.
Or even just find out? Makes sense to see, then decide.

I wish Brad would just focus on getting more top tier vs a bunch of mids. Historically Brad doesn’t go much more than 8 deep so why then have/pay a roster of a bunch of mids that will never see the floor? Maybe he’s planning to open it up a bit more? Specially I’m referring to Tre and Carey. I feel we would have been much better just bundling the NIL for both of those players to get one stud. Very little point in have a really deep roster if you are not using it, barring any injuries.
I am with you but does the math work? We simply don't know. Also Tre and Carey are multi-year players so maybe they will be top tier next year?

I think Tre will play a lot. And both him (2) and Booth (3) have multiple years of eligibility. And top tier guys aren’t easy to get. Brad has emphasized multiple years of eligibility to try to get more continuity while still fielding a top 20 team (or better) this year. If can maintain that core next year (certainly not a given), with everyone a year older and Fears coming in that team is set up to be a monster.

Jake brings something that we haven't had in years, and that is come off the screen, catch and shoot. We have had spot up shooters in the past, but it has been a long long time since we have had a guy that can come off a screen and knock down a 3. This offense will be different, with less ball dominate players. The screen and roll/flare with Big T and Jake being able to come off screens and knock down jumpers, don't sleep on the minutes Jake will be getting. Shooting is still the great equalizer, and from all the film of Jake I've been watching, I think he will get his minutes if he keeps shooting it well. As for defense, I'd sacrifice some of that with a guy who can shoot it at a 40%+ clip. It seems pretty evident that offense is our priority, we just need to hold teams under 80, because we are going to score 85+ with BU at the helm.
I like Davis.

I don't enough about the players and expectations to understand the reaction to the tweet. But, I like this GIF.

It's not just about 2024-25. They can't keep spending millions for one-year players.

The Big Ten is a much different conference than the Southern. Who does Davis play over?

Underwood has always played a 7-8 man rotation, that isn't going to change all of the sudden. Guys we know will get minutes: Boswell, Ivisic, Morez, White, Humrichous, wing still to be named, that's 6 already and there are still Rodgers, Booth, backup PG, DGL. I just don't see Davis getting many minutes outside of the non-con schedule.

I think this is where equilibrium in the portal starts to happen from both sides.

Coaches realize rebuilding the roster every year is expensive and risky. But it's difficult to bank on someone staying at any school more than a year without a penalty to transfer

Players realize that transferring doesn't always guarantee more money or a better situation.... Some wont find a spot.

I am guessing Brad and Co are trying the blend approach that gets them viability next year and program building capabilities next year.

Outside of Humrichous, we could have everybody back for a 2025-2026 season (I think) and a realistic tourney road that could go STL to CHI to IND.

I know there will be roster churn and I’m putting the cart WAY before the horse, but it’s hard not to get excited about the job Brad and team have done reloading here.

These do happen. Booth & White both have extremely high ceilings. How big of a STUD can you get who will be willing to come off the bench?
These are guys we might not necessarily project to start, but will absolutely push our starters for minutes.

?

PG: Kylan Boswell (6’2”) / Niccolo Moretti (6’1”)
SG: Egor Demin (6’8”) / Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (6’1”)
SF: Ty Rodgers (6’6”) / Tre White (6’7”)
PF: Ben Humrichous (6’9”) / Carey Booth (6’10”)
C: Tomislav Ivisic (7’1”) / Morez Johnson (6’9”)

Other/Redshirt: Jake Davis (6’6”), Jason Jakstys (6’10”)

I put in Rodgers over Tre White for guard-defense since I think we'd need 2 guys quick enough to guard opposing guards (Boswell and Rodgers).
That's a pretty good two-deep rotation/lineup that you are predicting/projecting. I hope that Demin can excel for the Illini, and that he can shoot at least 35% on 3s. Likewise, DGL showed that he could take 3s last season in limited minutes, but I hope that he can improve his success rate to the mid-30% range. I think/hope that Boswell can hit 3s in the upper 30% range next season, maybe even touching 40%. But I worry a bit that our 3-point shooting might be lacking next season, i.e. the three players above don't reach those percentages. That's why I don't think that Jake Davis will redshirt next season. He will need to get minutes, taking and making 3-pointers. He moves so much better than Goode, he can hit 3s coming off a pick, and he can even hit 3s coming off a couple of dribbles. P.S. I think that Tre White will start at the 3 next season. He's athletic enough to be a great defender. And I think Underwood will demand that from Tre. Also, I expect Tre's shooting percentages to improve this coming season.

0440 said: Wing and back up PG. We don't need another big. Brad will leave a spot open.
Hearing rumblings Nico Moretti might return to Champaign
Will we still be leaving a spot open if Nico comes back? Think you need those roster spots if that happens.

Shoots it a lot better than Harrington ever did and he's 6'6". He's Goode but could be a better version. IMO
Sean Harrington shot 42.8% from 3 for his entire career in the Big Ten. He had a high season of 45.9% and his worst season was 39.7%. Jake Davis so far has only had 1 season where he shot 38.7% against much weaker competition.

I think people forget how good of a shooter Sean Harrington was.

You mean like Kylan, Tomislav, Egor/Kadary?

Also a lot of high major coaches love Humrichous
