Hypothetical long term NIL/transfer question. I’m sure schools have already been consulted on managing NIL money, but my question is this:

Do we see a school like Kentucky go all in one year in terms of building a “mega team”? And pay 20-25 million to try to buy a championship?

Key word there is “try.” When you’re tossing around that kind of money, the egos and attitudes are equally as inflated.

Agreed. Lately our prognostications have more misses than hits. I'll cautiously optimistic.
Good lord..
Do you not know how crazy things are? When agreed to deals are scrapped because of greedy parents? What great Intel have you brought to the site? If it's none as I suspect it is then you should probably keep your pi$$y comments to yourself. Insiders please don't let comments like this convince you to stop sharing

As long as there is no limit, just using the tendency for human frailty (we have seen NIL payments more than double in the past year), it is likely there is not a person on the planet who can make an accurate prediction where NIL $ earned per season will be in 10 years...or 20....or ? if the status quo continues. My expectation is for there to be some bumpers legislated at some point. If not, we may see college players having to take a pay cut to play in the NBA....and that is already the case...huh? That is already the case for CoHawk. There is much more passion leading to $ from alums than NBA fans it seems.

I probably made a mistake somewhere, but this lineup makes my mouth water.... especially if we manage to bring everybody back (except Humrichous) and add Fears and Jaksyts for 2025-26. Final Four (or more) potential.

There are two guys the staff has in mind if Egor doesn't work out. I think they are all pretty optimistic with where things stand with him right now. Still a couple things to work through though
I'm definitely wanting Egor Demin to commit to Illinois. He can lift our team to a whole different level. He fills so many needs on the 24-25 roster. Some people have said that it might take up to two weeks for Illinois to finalize things with Demin. Others (and you?) seem to think that it might happen more quickly. My worry is that if this process takes 2 more weeks, and Demin decides to stay with Real Madrid, will the "two guys the staff has in mind if Egor doesn't work out" still be available for the Illini to add in lieu of Demin? How long, in your opinion, can/should Illinois wait on Demin before signing one or two of the guys identified by the staff? I still have PTSD from Illinois seemingly waiting so long on RayJ Dennis last offseason, and when he instead went to Baylor, it seemed like all of the good point guards in the portal had already transferred elsewhere. Also, would either of those players that staff has in mind be willing to commit to the Illini before Demin finalizes his decision?

It’s been tried in MLB by various large market teams. Payroll is not highly correlated with winning percentage is pro sports VETERANS, hard to predict how it will work with less mature 19 and 20 year olds with an overdeveloped sense of self worth.

I love Coleman. Watching him grow up over 4 years and be a leader of the Elite Eight team. Gave everything. However if he chooses to play college basketball elsewhere he is dead to me. I will remember him as someone who chose to play against the Illini. He will no longer be an Illini all time great. Its an insult to all the other all time Illini greats - Eddie Johson, Bruce Douglas, Dee Brown, Deron Williams, Nick Anderson, Kendall Gill, Kenny Battle, Terrance Shannon. None of them abandoned Illinois to play for another school
You are naming players that are from a different era/landscape along with a player who "abandoned" his original school to play for us.

Edit: I see this was covered by many already. I'm playing catchup.

With this roster construction, CoachBrad is basically a NBA coach. Size, speed, and transition every game. Run waves of players at opposing teams. New rule, 1st team to 100 wins! 😆 🤣
If he were an NBA coach he’d play with a full roster.

I have seen posters say it may take a couple of weeks. I have not, however, seen anyone (in the know) say anything about it happening any sooner.

Problem is the best talent doesn’t win championships. You need good players who play together

If you could have had a mega team last year who would you have only exception is UCONN players are off limits. Do you think your team could have beaten them

Who would be your mega team this year?

So…. according a Belarusian I know who speaks fluent Russian, Egor Demin likely pronounces his name yeh-GORE D’YO-mihn. She says there’s actually a slight “z” sound between the D and the Y in the last name pronunciation, but it makes no sense really looking at it in an English translation. It would be Dz’YO-mihn if you can get your mouth to actually make that sound.
Da, I took Russian at UIUC and that sounds right, no pun intended LOL
It would be easier to determine that if someone would post the Cyrillic version of his name, not so much the "e" parts but the rest.

edit: oops a page too late once again.

Would be awesome but probably always going to lose guys to the portal and Demin is currently getting mocked in the top 10 so he seems like a one and done.

If you manage to get Demin for two years that would be incredible.
