The weather is starting to get a bit warm for Demin, anyways. Staff needs to look for a cooler fabric that will mesh better with the guard-ments

No one knows where the NIL market is going to go, but I really hope no school jumps in and pays Egor $2 mil
I agree,
However, the only way this insanity stops is if there are programs willing to pay $2 mil for one player.
So for his sake and the future of college basketball as we know it, I hope gets $5 mil.

The NIL era is going to be susceptible to the winner's curse for less proven players - "the party who wins an auction of a commodity of uncertain value with a fair number of bidders typically pays more than the asset is actually worth". You win the auction, yes, but no one else bidding thought the price you won at made sense.

To the extent that NIL is limited for a given school, which is probably often the case despite internet musing, schools that materially overpay will suffer. It's obviously different with a known commodity with a proven track record, but there will be major NIL misses on promising, but unproven talent. Not saying Egor specifically, but people like him.

Expect that he will get his $2M or close to it. If we ever get to something closer to true free agency, note that the NBA market today (even with a soft salary cap) has top players making ~3x what top coaches are making. $2M for a top CBB player is still less than 40% of what top college coaches are making (which historically benefitted from the absence of player payments in the system), so there is plenty of room for movement. Though the NIL player comp system (such that it is) is still restricted in that the institution making money off of the enterprise is prohibited from paying players directly. For now anyway...

Guys, how many times have we (and virtually every other school) gone through this at the hands of an eighteen year old?

In this case WE NEVER HAD HIM! He is being handled and so are we...

We got a visit, which got our blood pressure racing. But this type of high profile, megastar singular player almost never comes to Illinois. And maybe that's a good thing! Egor-types typically go to Memphis, USC, Texas, where big money grows on trees...

We get guys (Ayo, Cofi, Shannon) that Brad can shape into great players on very good teams. So RELAX! We'll get another good player or two and will field a team that we can be proud of.

And Egor (Igor, Ogor, Ugor, Agor, Sometimes Ygor) will probably sign with the Dodgers--everyone else has!

Go get 'em, Brad! I love the way he's constructing this team.

Okay insiders, I'm really curious. How many donors are there contributing big dollars for our NIL fund? Is it like 5 guys donating 80% of the money, or is it more spread out than that?
