I know that as the season drags on you get to be more and more of a fan of certain new players (ie Marcus) but the first half of this season might seem like watching replacement players during a professional sports strike and cheering for laundry.
Well let's just do it in terms of next season eligible players gained and lost during this "transfer period", which seems logical and consistent enoughI don't think there's a single soul on here who would argue the opposite.
It has nothing to do with NIL or how we’re building our roster. Coleman loved his 4 years here and Brad is super happy and proud that he stuck it out 4 years. Coleman wants to do something different for his last year as does Brad. Simple as that. No harm in that either. Coleman will always be an Illini.
10000%….especially if it’s UNCAnother aspect of Coleman transferring that I haven't seen talked about: When he gets drafted in 2025, he won't be known as Hawkins from Illinois, but rather Hawkins from X school. Every website with a player profile and every in-game graphic will have the name of the school he last played with as his college. His 4 years at Illinois could be forgotten by those in the NBA world. This is what hurts the most imo.
I wonder if the nature of those will change along with the fluidity of movement.Another aspect of Coleman transferring that I haven't seen talked about: When he gets drafted in 2025, he won't be known as Hawkins from Illinois, but rather Hawkins from X school. Sports is far from alone, and probably isn't even at the top, on the list of domains where the imperatives of commerce are poisoning the educational mission of these institutions.Biggest question in my mind is where “academics” winds up in all of this. Who will be the college President to say “no more” for the first time since U. of Chicago did it in the 1930s?
I'm sorry but this is a bit much. If you're saying are we as good losing the seniors, sure, but this team is markedly better than what it lost by transfer & we are still waiting on 1-2 signings:Well let's just do it in terms of next season eligible players gained and lost during this "transfer period", which seems logical and consistent enough
IN:
Kylan Boswell
Carey Booth
Tomislav Ivisic
Ben Humrichous
Tre White
Jake Davis
OUT:
Coleman Hawkins
Dain Dainja
Luke Goode
Jase Butler
Amani Hansberry
Sencire Harris
Nico Moretti
I wouldn't outright say the OUT group is better, I think it's a close call. I would note that Hawkins is the highest ranked of anyone on either list, the OUT group is older and more experienced, and their case gets stronger if you limit it to 2024-25 season value, which maybe you should given the likelihood of players entering the portal every year.
If Hawkins can be a star for UConn next year, then Carey Booth can be a star for Duke two years from now.
If this dude is seriously getting $2,000,000 in NIL, then I think we owe all of the guys on our team last year like a combined billion dollars for what they did last season...this is just becoming ridiculous.
Ask that hypothetical again when it's reality. Is everybody gonna be sitting around the Coleman campfire telling stories of his Illini greatness and 4 years of unwavering loyalty if he knocks us out of the tourney next season?
from the Pizza Hut Parking lotOr are we ordering Dominos
Nobody really likes this system (including Brad). You should probably write a letter to the Supreme court to tell them somehow veto the lower court decision instead of preaching to the choir here.Well let's just do it in terms of next season eligible players gained and lost during this "transfer period", which seems logical and consistent enough

I find many think they will act/speak in a certain way when it's theoretical only to find reality is totally different

Honestly, if Brad had locked down Storr like he thought would happen, this wouldn’t be a close call, and most of us would be thrilled by how the roster looks. I also think we need to wait until the Fall to accurately evaluate. Remember how TSJ unexpectedly fell into our lap?Well let's just do it in terms of next season eligible players gained and lost during this "transfer period", which seems logical and consistent enough

A Russian spreading propaganda for his own gain? *gasp* I can’t believe it.Apparently that $2 million BYU offer for Egor was bogus.
Agreed on the experience piece, but we have 3 starters transferring in with broader skill sets. Only 1 starter transferring out. I really like what we have down low.Well let's just do it in terms of next season eligible players gained and lost during this "transfer period", which seems logical and consistent enough

The players have agents who are not thinking of this the way you are, and who are driving up prices at an astonishing rate. The only way to meet those prices in the long term is a direct revenue share between schools and players. I’m not judging whether that is good or bad, it just … is.NBA doesn't own the stadiums and isn't responsible for building and maintaining facilities.
NBA isn't responsible for funding MLB, NHL, NWSL, American Figure Skating, ATP, Professional Kickball Federation, etc.
NBA's core mission isn't to provide a public service (Education), life skills (provides income, but not life skills), and diverse knowledge (reason engineers have to take literature and other gen Eds/ pre-reqs).
We’re on Jamir Watkins watchIs Brad still cooking or are we waiting for the dominos to fall?
