Similar to how I felt when Pietrangelo lifted the cup in 2019, but I would trade so many things to see a national championship banner in Champaign
Not really to your point, however do we really count out Jase Butler who never made it here? yet not count in Morez/& Jakstys & I see the caveat of this transfer period - just think you need to have procession.

Watched both of last season’s games vs bucky over the weekend and I must say I am not disappointed we passed on Storr. Despite the transfer rankings and sudden hype, I just don’t see him as elite. Certainly not talented enough to warrant his price, especially if the rumored family drama that comes with his recruitment is true. Meanwhile, staff keeps shooting for high value targets that weren’t on anyone’s radar. There’s still going be plenty of portal movement/de-commits and draft shakeups between now and fall. I have no worries about BU & Co having another B1G/MM contending squad next season.
I mean not true on the money part but yes true on the dumb fans part.

Morez and Jakstys aren't changed from last season though, in terms of the projected roster for 2024-25. Butler was on that list, and in the portal chaos process that changed.
I felt like it would be dumb not to count Ivisic because he's not technically from the "transfer portal" but then it would only make methodological sense to count Butler too since he "left the team" during this period as well.
I'm trying to zero in on a different question than "are we better or worse than last year" where TSJ and Domask carry so much weight in the analysis.
It's more like "are we a net gainer or net loser in the transfer window?" The thought that we could be anywhere close to a net loser wasn't even a part of anyone's thought process 6 weeks ago, but here we are.
I hope and think we aren't done with additions yet. I also for the record think Coleman should and still may stay in the draft. But just laying down a marker for discussion.
You lost me on the bold part. What part of our transfer class had you thinking Brad was building a roster and thinking Coleman was coming back? I thought it was obvious that Brad was planning for life after Hawkins when Humrichous was announced.
From the outside looking in, it sure feels like Brad was confident Coleman was going pro or showcasing his talents somewhere else next season.

Everyone has the right to deal with this new paradigm of the college hoops landscape any way they need. Calling our fans dumb for valuing a level of loyalty that no longer exists is really not the way to go. However, maybe changing the board name from Illinois Loyalty to Dumb Illinois Fans Board would be the way to go.
If fans think the NIL $ are going up at an astonishing rate then wait until next year...and the next...and the next.

Would NE still love Brady and all his accomplishments if he left after 4 years or GB would they still revere Farve and his accomplishments?? The answer is NO most fans would not talk highly of either of them and what they did in their prospective uniform if they left for more money to a rival
Biggest question in my mind is where “academics” winds up in all of this. Who will be the college President to say “no more” for the first time since U. of Chicago did it in the 1930s?
Maybe a general studies program where all the player does is show up, maybe an online certification program of all credit/no credit courses, perhaps a degree becomes optional and the players takes internships during their time on campus.

Maybe but it’s not exactly that simple. I’m certain I am not alone on this board in passing up much higher comp to chose a position based on reasons beyond comp. This is especially the case when the figures are substantial either way.

bc he is leaving bc of roster construction and NIL not bc he wants a “different” last seasonAm I the only one who sees it both ways? I'm happy for Coleman. Great dude. Illini for life. Stayed when he didn't need to. Took us further (with help of course) than any team since '05. Nothing but respect for him trying to go showcase his skillset somewhere else/get the bag; HOWEVER, the old school college basketball fan in me is still going to puke watching him play for UCONN or UNC... I think the majority of people are more mad at the system than the individuals involved and that doesn't make them dumb.

Telling people who pour their hard earned money and their personal time into this program how they need to feel about a grown man 22 years of age making the decision to play elsewhere - and to take it a step further - if they don't feel that exact way then they simply aren't *real* fans or they're woefully ignorant or some such nonsense.
