Heard rumors that the ship has not sailed. Also heard he is staying in Madrid so who knows.

Still? Good lord...

Well...if there truly is still a chance, I'd have to imagine it's no more than a "door still open" chance rather than a "seriously working to get him chance"

...after what took place Thursday night.

Thursday's hoops recruiting thread might've honestly been the craziest hoops recruiting thread I've seen on here tbh.

How long (if at all possible with NIL) till we see performance based NIL or bonuses at the end of the year? Maybe if something along those line, we could have made it right with Hawkins at the end of last season. I can respect him wanting more money but it doesnt make me feel any better about it. I will admit I was critical of him at times, but never publicly and not nearly as much last year. He grew leaps and bounds last year. I wish he would stay, but also excited to see what these other elite guys that Brad has will do.
Once again it's not the money. He didn't feel slighted by the money he got last year. He made a good chunk of change for a 22yo. He isn't leaving because he can make more elsewhere.

Let's also remember that despite everything about the NIL state of college basketball, this Coleman situation is extremely unique in the sense that if we do get lucky enough to have more 4-year Illini like him, we will not have to worry about this scenario occurring again.
Getting rid of the Covid seasons will help, that's true.

And I'm not going to criticize the NCAA or whoever else for the Covid bonus season, that was a very difficult and confusing time and they were just doing whatever it took to see that the 2020-21 season actually happened.

I appreciate our insiders. I appreciate Coleman Hawkins. If he leaves and plays elsewhere, he will not be “forever” an Illini. That’s not how collegiate sports work. Like someone said earlier in the thread, if he goes to UNC and gets drafted, he’ll be known as CH out of Chapel Hill NC. Not Coleman Hawkins out of U of I Champaign, Illinois. I’ll still respect him, he’s doing nothing wrong and i don’t blame him either. I’ll respect what he decides to do a lot more than i do Goode’s decision, but we don’t have to listen to being told how to fan or treat kids who leave. He gave us four years but if he finishes elsewhere, he won’t be forever an Illini. Simple as that. Look at TSJ, he’s an illinois guy now, not Texas tech. It would blemish his Illinois legacy some absolutely and there’s nothing wrong with feeling/thinking that way as a fan. Don’t listen to the others who are saying you have to support it and be happy about it. It sucks. He shouldn’t play college ball anywhere else, period, and if he does, then he was partially an Illini.

Illinois: Hey Coleman, we can get you $X per year

Coleman: I'm going to X, as they can offer me more

Dumb Illinois Fans: Traitor!
That sounds like a great narrative, but considering it has been said over and over and over rhat Colehawk and Domask would get their NIL taken care of if they chose to come back and NIL money wouldn't be an issue , makes it more likely other factors were in play.

For the 'atta boy' crowd, how are we supposed to feel if a fully healthy Coleman signs with Michigan or Iowa or NW for his final year and makes first-team all big ten?
And here's a fun hypothetical. What if NIL was around during Dee Brown's time and he transferred to a rival his last year? Or pick some other beloved player from your college days... Lucas Johnson, Frank Williams, Deon Thomas, Kendall Gill, Eddie Johnson, etc. Now imagine them in a rival's uniform for their senior year hitting shots in Assembly Hall.
Unless they start selling velcro jerseys with interchangeable numbers and names for the kids to wear, I don't see how this current model is sustainable.
This post makes it abundantly clear you haven't been paying attention. CoHawk made it very clear he would be transferring outside of the B1G. He stated he saw every B1G team as a rival (paraphrasing here) and would never do something as despicable as suit up for a rival.

Maybe that isnt the reason he is leaving IL but the way I understood his interview on the field of 68, he was entering the portal to essentially maximize money potential. So maybe not the reason he left us, but he is trying to do so anyways. At this point for CH, what determines if he goes pro vs the portal? Is it pride of which draft pick round, best development, or money? Even throwing money out, which one would help his development more? In the end it is what is best for him and I do wish him the best.

It's just the easiest/stock answer to give. Portal vs NBA all depends on draft stock after combine and his knee.

Going pro vs. returning to college and returning to Illinois vs. transferring somewhere else are two different scenarios that can have different reasonings behind them.

Well let's just do it in terms of next season eligible players gained and lost during this "transfer period", which seems logical and consistent enough

IN:
Kylan Boswell
Carey Booth
Tomislav Ivisic
Ben Humrichous
Tre White
Jake Davis

OUT:
Coleman Hawkins
Dain Dainja
Luke Goode
Jase Butler
Amani Hansberry
Sencire Harris
Nico Moretti

I wouldn't outright say the OUT group is better, I think it's a close call. I would note that Hawkins is the highest ranked of anyone on either list, the OUT group is older and more experienced, and their case gets stronger if you limit it to 2024-25 season value, which maybe you should given the likelihood of players entering the portal every year.

If Hawkins can be a star for UConn next year, then Carey Booth can be a star for Duke two years from now.
If you are going to include Butler who never got here, you need to include Morez and Jack

Insiders sure don't like Coleman talk on here 😂.

I mean...I get it. But at the same time...like I said in yesterday's...this guy is not a great player he's a legacy player. He's one of our favorite players ever and it's honestly pretty darn hard to accept everything's fine and cool when we'll have to see him play for a blueblood we despise next year.

He's been truly an awesome character over these last 4 years. Overall, his services to the program and ILL nation has been nothing but great.

But because he has given us such joy...and we love him here so much...it's pretty sad - the thought that he's gonna play somewhere else next year. It just doesn't fit what we know based of our past thoughts.

But his contributions should be appreciated though nonetheless.

I just read an article saying that UNC has only 1 portal transfer so far. One?! What? Wow. This seems so weird to me.

Wherever Coleman goes next year they will become my 2nd favorite NCAA team or NBA team.
Never going to hate on the guy.
Of course, if he plays the Illini I hope he goes 2-11 from the field but I will still love him after.

I’d like to see the NCAA create a 5th year option as a reward for kids who graduate. Reward them with a chance to get more NIL, education, and skill development if NBA/overseas could be an option.

Without a 5th year option, Domask never would’ve had the opportunity to become an Illini legend. Perfect for guys like him.

I think people fail to realize that Coleman not only has a U of I degree, but he has a degree from the Brad Underwood school of basketball. From what I have read, he was running some practices by the end of the year. Coleman has an extremely sharp mind for the game. Brad may not be the guy best suited to challenge him anymore. From a development standpoint it might be best for him to seek another perspective on the game.

I'd much rather he just shoot the heck out of the ball at the combine and make a GM fall in love with him...
