Because the projections work by projecting player contributions based on positional availability and estimates each player's contribution based on extrapolating last year's stats. This has limitations, namely incoming freshmen and international players that have no stats from last year to extrapolate. Torvik hedges this slightly by estimating contributions of incoming freshmen based on high school stats normalized by level of play, but doesn't currently do this for international players.

Thus, the current 2025 projection for Illinois is borked, because the roster has a player that doesn't exist in the database yet, so AJ Redd becomes the 10th player in the rotation and not a negligible walk-on.

I did a test yesterday with the roster, and just put Zvonimir Ivisic on the roster (it was the closest comp of any existing player I could get, of course), and the projection jumped from 16th to 6th in the B1G.

He can be right but watching games is almost irrelevant when it comes to evaluate a brand new team with all new players. IMO, everybody are just giving their crap shoots when ranking us. For me, if we can find the manuals for like 4 or more starters by mid season, we good (top 1/3 or B1G). If we only find the manual of 2-3 starters, we will be mediocre. If we have a bad chemistry issue, we tank.
I trust Trotter. He is a decent evaluator.

I keep trying to decide who he reminds me of that played at Illinois. Finally got it. Frankie Williams with more hops. He just seems so smooth.
Jeremiah Fears looks like a legit day one starter (like Ayo) and would team up well with Boswell if he's still here plus other returning teammates from 24'-25'

For the insiders, what is our status with Scotty Adkinson from Bradley Beal’s AAU team?

I know both the Illini and Missouri have offered but he told a former youth coach who I know, that he wants to go to Illinois.

When he attacks the basket, he reminds me of TSJ with his quick maneuvering away from the defenders. He averaged 15.3 points again for Webster Groves in his freshman year.

Any updates?

Are we sure we're truly as "in" on Riley? He made a "final five" announcement about a month ago and we weren't on it. This was even after we got OA back. ARK and KY seem like the frontrunners currently.

Feel like the dream scenario right now would be to land Lathon and Kasparas...

And if somehow, someway, the biggest pipe dream of landing an individual comes true in AJ Dybansta. If not, 1/2 of Jasper Johnson/ Meelek Thomas would be more than fine.

And if we don't land neither of those 3 - AJ, Meelek, Jasper - that's fine as well. Would just absolutely love one of them though...

Outside of this forum nobody on the national scene thinks we have any chance of Riley.
Yeah don't think we got a realistic shot at Riley...

Of the 4 of Jasper, Meelek, AJ, Riley, most likely to least likely is probably:

1: Meelek
2: Jasper
3: AJ
4: Riley
