I think you’d be foolish to play him at the 5 at that level anyway. He’s a stretch 4. There aren’t many power centers in the NBA that are offensive focal points. Joker & Embiid…but no one is guarding those guys effectively One on one.
He is a NBA 4 unless he plays for the Golden State.

He is not a 5 for Golden State either. They would be more likely to play him as a 3 than a 5. I do agree that his overall skillset and style is a nice fit for the Warrior.

I think it's less about the specific team and more about the ease of not getting picked at all by just slipping a few spots.
Yeah all it takes to go from 55 to undrafted is for the league to prefer the draft rights of four international players nobody has ever heard of

In some cases, not getting picked is better than getting picked super late. There is no guarantee of a contract after the 1st round. If you are on that draft bubble, you will likely get a few options to choose from in terms of a training camp. You will get an extended audition for a team that might need you, rather than potentially breaking camp with a team that doesn't have a need at your position and only picked you because they had to pick someone...
In the 2nd round and later, it's really all about the situation.

TSJ at 21, Coleman at 55 in the latest bleacher report mock draft.
www.bleacherreport.com/articles/10121302-2024-nba-mock-draft-new-no-1-post-combine-2-round-predictions

When’s the last time we had two guys drafted in the same year, 06?
TSJ is kind of in limbo, if the charges were dropped I could see him as a lottery pick. However I could also see him sliding as far as the 2nd due to the uncertainty.

Looking at that mock, I think Coleman should be in the 30-40 range ahead of Ryan Dunn but I guess we will see.

On a side note, I think Shead can play in the NBA as a better offensively version of Patrick Beverly type, but being mocked that late there should have been some serious advice to enter the portal come back and be the highest paid player in college next year if guys are hitting 2 mil. Same thing with guys like Sallis and Christie.

Coleman is a great on ball perimeter defender but a poor interior defender. Bigs abused him in the paint.
It happens when your opponent weighs 40-60 more...and you have a bad wheel...

And which team exactly is going to draft him to be an interior defender????
That was my question too… Illinois didn’t have much of a second option for interior defenders. Every NBA team would benefit from a guy who is 6’10 and can guard the other teams point guard

The ability to switch on every position is important in the NBA.... Just like we have tried last few years many times. The big difference is the big bulking guys in the NBA are also as quick as Coleman. So they would hunt him.... Or at least if he ever got into that position where he has to guard a true 4 or a 5 in the NBA then it's an issue

Really 75% of the NBA players can't gaurd a big dominant post player.
