Illinois Football Recruiting Thread

It's based on 24/7's composite rankings and uses a gaussian distribution equation of the following form:

Sum(1,n)=100*(x-0.7)*e^{-0.5*[(n-1)/9]^2}

Where x is the individual player's rating and n is the nth best recruit they are that you have recruited, and sum(1,n) is the summation of your entire recruiting class. Basically, your best recruits are your most important ones, and each progressive recruit is worth less than the previous one. So size of class will have an effect on your rankings as will quality of player.
Interesting, but I was asking how the player ratings, the x variable in this case, was determined.

X= hype^2((1-40yd dash/100)+(max squat/1000)+(max bench/1000))

I know it's a bit of a broken record at this point, but amazing that we can't even get visits from top in-staters, even ones that BB should have a decent relationship with

He already has a tie in with Iowa because of his brother. We were terrible when his brother played there . We also have a massive perception hole to dig out of.

Mizzou getting a visit stings, but they are crushing it in recruiting. Iowa is a given. The other three are long distance. He could essentially visit Illinois unofficially five times between now and signing day. Obviously, wouldn’t get all the perks of an official, but there are some definite benefits.

We’ve been way behind on his list for a long time, but with NIL, maybe he’s a HS kid we pay for if staff deems him as good as advertised.

And his (Eppy) tenure overlapped with BB at Iowa. To have that connection and not even get an OV is just another reminder how tough this thing will be. We may not even get OVs from most/all of the top 15 in-staters. That's just not sustainable
My everlasting conviction that finishing 2nd in a recruitment is completely, comprehensively and irrevocably meaningless applies to this situation too.

We don't need the honor of hosting OV's. We need players.

I have zero interest in spending our staff's time and effort saving face with a kid who isn't interested.

We need kids to be interested but that's a different question.

That's effectively the underlying question in all of this. Nobody wants the staff to hosts visits for the sake of it. But, it would be nice to generate enough interest to even get an OV. It's quite (unfortunately) eye-opening when you stress in-state recruiting in your opening presser, seem to do many of the right actions to yield that interest, but still really can't even get on the consideration radar (let alone a commitment) from the top guys.

Realistically what top 15 kid do you think we should’ve had a chance with. Look at the programs they are choosing. We aren’t at that level to compete with that

What kind of bag does he have to be looking for that he couldn’t get at ut?
Not inside info whatsoever, just deeply pondering in relation to life itself. Sometimes it’s just the relativity of it all, first example that comes to mind is if they think they can be a high playing time guy at a different university and make more $$$ at the moment

Another scenario, I’d guess some guys may feel confident enough in their ability to make money in the pros, so they focus on skill development and/or the challenge of playing #1 guy at their respective position. The culture at a high profile football school like Texas could be compared to our basketball program, surely they would get the $$$ if they stayed, but it’s not just the money.

Pretty much; how do these players feel valued at each university (financially, talent wise, morally, etc)? Just like the love languages, & despite modern day trends, it ain’t always gift-giving 🤝🏻

*and yes I fully accept you could’ve been just playing on the NIL jokes😂, but with how true of a factor that it is in modern CFB, just wanted to remind these kids are still human, they’re not all about the trends. Most everything in life consists of multiple variables weighing %’s, everyone’s scale is different 💨

My friends… to heck with mutual exclusivity & binary thought (outside of code, circuits, end of road science, etc). Now, let’s go get both of these guys 👊🏼
