Also the Ty Rodgers slander has gotten out of hand. He still was a great contributor on an elite 8 team and can be really good as an upperclassman
The Ty Rodgers slander was started by the insiders on this board who claimed he would leave because we had so much talent he’d have to leave to get playing time. I 100% agree it’s gotten too out of hand though.

You can laugh all you want but the numbers back him up. Bart Torvik has Illinois 14th in B10. Do I personally think they’ll be that low - NO, but your personal bias doesn’t make his claim a joke.

What results has he not gotten so far? There are two players who set their price significantly higher than he saw their value (Storr & Demin) and one whose value was met by the team who lead most of the way for him (Maddox). Along the way he’s landed his top point guard target (Boswell), a skilled 5 that can space the floor (Ivisic), the 4 he’s coveted for awhile (Booth), the small ball 4 he sees as a key player (Big Ben) and two wings with great upside (White and Davis).

Now, to be fair, there’s still work to be done. But to say he hasn’t gotten results so far is ludicrous. How it will all play out come next winter is another question, but so far Underwood has gotten who he’s wanted and backed off when the asking price became absurd.
Yeah, yeah…pretty much… not to split hairs. But I thought Brad still wanted Egor…even after the price tag 🏷️ went:

While we are at this, let's go over some of these teams
IU: Got a ton of talent, but Woodson is the coach and he's underperfomed with talent
Ohio State: Did they really get any better? Lost Battle Okrpara and Gayle and added Meechie and Bradshaw
Michigan: Their two best players play the same position and are limited offensively. We are way deeper than they are. I'll take Boswell over any of their guards
Purdue: Life without Edey is going to be difficult. Look at their roster. Outside of Braeden Smith, it is very underwhelming pieces or freshman
Rutgers: Two elite freshman and a pile of trash? Good luck
Maryland: Actually like what they have done. But once again, they have no one who can shoot in the frontcourt
MSU: An absolute joke people are saying MSU is better. They would KILL for a center line big t. Look at our frontcourt compared to there's. I'll take our pg over theirs as well
USC: Great offseason. Imo a top 2 or 3 big ten team
Northwestern: lol. Can over 50% of people on this board name guys on the team outside of their top 2 or 3 players for next year? Collins is a great coach but Buie carried that team
You forgot a couple

NW without Boo will be interesting
Nebraska lost Mast for the season
Iowa without Perkins will need someone to step up

Get the players on campus and let’s see how we gel. Look at last year’s preseason rankings and look at their results. It is a lot harder nowadays to predict

Okay I know everyone thinks my post is crazy. I will admit it was a bit of a wild take. But here is my reasoning.

Big T: We are counting on him even though he has never played college basketball. His brother who is better averaged 5.5 points a game.

Ben Hum: played poorly against top competition in the MVC: vs Drake he scored 8 vs Indiana state scored 7 and then he played BYU which he scored 8. I know he had a calf injury for most of the year so that is tough.

Booth: played 20 mins a game averaged 6 points, 4 rebounds on 39/29/63 splits.

Morez: I think he will eventually be very good. But he has not played college basketball yet and the pace and game is so much different. Look at Hansberry he struggled with the transition.

Tre white: I think he could be a good player and addition to this team. Seems to have been on a bad team and inconsistent at times.

Ty: as we all know great defender, leader and just person. But can’t shoot and not as great of a player maker as we thought he would be. But restless love him as a player

DGL: big wild card and player we need to step up next year. Shooting has to become more consistent. Also needs to become a better play maker and play defense with out fouling.

Jake Davis: I don’t think he will play very much seems like a decent shooter and will play hard but doubt he will see the floor.

Boswell: I think has a chance to be very good but at the same time needs to make some jumps offensively and is not a guy that is going to create his own shots.

Some of this thought is our offense last year ran through two guys who had scored more than 1,500 points in their college careers and a 4 year starter in Coleman Hawkins. Plus you had Quincy and Harmon who were graduate transfers.

We do not run any sets and Brad has even said he doesn’t run sets on offense we need to run sets.

On defense yes Big T provides a presence but still has to learn how to play in the Big 10/ college game. Also we don’t have a great on the ball defender.

I do think our team will play super hard and get after as all of Brads teams do. I think Brad is great at getting the guys to play hard which is a big thing in college basketball. But we do not have a “guy” right now. Sorry if I upset people. I hope I am wrong just feel we have a lot of question marks.

The Northwest has 3 guards in the portal who I really like Jaylen Wells (Washington St.) 6-8, excellent 3 pt shooter, Dillon Jones (Weber State) Ball dominant guard with 6-11 wingspan, top notch passer, has midrange game but average 3 pt shooter (30%). 3rd I mentioned before is Cedric Coward, reminds me of a taller version of Brandon Paul, demeanor as well.

For those that liked Kadary Richmond, Dillion Jones seems like a similar player. Jones would probably be a great glue guy, passes and rebounds very well. I have to think that BU is going to wait until who pulls out of NBA draft (late May). Plenty of talent at the SG position, most of top programs have spent or landed their SG. I think Illinois has the NIL to land the players I mentioned above.

Agreed ty Rodgers is an offensive weapon just not a shooter. He can absolutely get buckets. Plus he defends, passes and rebounds like a madman!
Ty is a beast rebounder and is an exceptional athlete.

If I were him I would do the TSJ thing and get up at 4:00 am daily and shoot a thousand shots a day. He has to gain confidence.

He will fight for PT as hard as anyone on the team.

See, for me, I'm more than content with Brad's success and results. And how we do this year won't impact how I feel about him.

But the team, as currently constructed, has significant question marks and does not look to be a top half of the Big Ten team.

I'm a huge, huge fan of our coach and the state of our program. And I also don't think we're going to be all that good next year, which is fine. The current roster, for me, is about development for the following year.
It has a question mark at the "2" for sure, but we still may land a decent SG. Do that and I think it looks like a top half team. Obviously a lot depends on how all the new guys gel as a team.

"Development for the following year" I'm not sure about with the portal and the transfer rules the way they are. November 2025 might as well be 2035.

Can't find anywhere that the dude from Webber State entered the portal. Nowhere does it say he did. He's mocked in the first round anyways - don't know why he wouldn't stay in the draft...

As for the other two...I'd take Watkins over them.

I really like Wells and Coward. Also would love to have Watkins. Portaling is hard...

Just an absurd thought. There's nothing really behind this than it just coming to mind, although Sleepers may have done a video on this - not quite sure. But anyways...

Arkansas's roster is so discombobulated, if that's the right word. There's a lot of talent there but it doesn't really fit together. Feel like someone might decommit from there.

If it is Big Z, will Illinois be a possibility?

And also, Indy did say someone might decommit that's already committed fwiw.

Agreed. I would also say Purdue. They return basically their whole team other than Edey and add in a a five star ready-to-contribute recruit in Catchings. If we add in a top level SG/wing this equation changes.
Really? Who is going to replace the scoring and rebounding of Edey? Not a freshman. Also, Jones and Gillis were very good 3 point shooters. Jones could defend and Gillis was a solid rebounder. And how many open jump shots were created by Edey being double teamed?
